Auto gearbox parked on an uphill

I have a pretty steep driveway, what I have noticed is if I park the BMW there, when drive away and engage gears from P to select any other gear the lever becomes very hard. Almost like I am hurting the box or something.

Do I need to worry? My previous G5 DSG used to to this but ever so slightly it was almost unnoticeable.

Pull up the handbrake first, then put the car in park - this should take some strain off. Do a search, I think this was discussed before.

Tat shouldnt happen, have it checked out rather

It is normal - it is the park lock on the gearbox. It is not very good for the gearbox if you rely on this, and if it is stiff to disengage, it is relying very much on it. Best solution is to put the car in neutral, and engage the (hand/)park brake and lift your foot off the foot brake so that the car is only using the park brake, then move the gearlever to park.

The other problem is the weak park brakes on BMW's...
