Hey Guys

I saw this another forum where a member mentioned that turning off dSC completely makes the car feels faster, I tested this and indeed it feels a whole lot faster point to point, even quicker then when in sport +

I also noticed that if you select sport or sport+ mode and tap the dsc button immediately after that, the car says dynamic traction control activated, now I for one am no expert anybody knows what the different modes do ?

There are so many combinations on this car for these modes almost too much

Also when you guys usually have a run or anticipate a run what mode do you switch to ?

I have done logs on all the settings. The best times recorded are switch to Sport mode and swith off DSC.Leave the car in auto mode but use the paddle to shift at 6500rpm.
Above is based on highveld conditions 1500mts.A vehicle may react differently at the coast.

I will test it when I drive the car again (this weekend I hope). What I can confirm, even in sport +, you do not get full power due to excessive wheelspin in lower gears. Driving through the Centurion tunnel, in sport+ you can actually hear the car cutting power on WOT.

I also noticed some cut back on power in sport + more so in the 1st and 2nd gears. Dsc completely off seems a lot quicker to me, maybe I am loosing my mind ? Only thing with just dsc off the throaty exhaust note is gone :thumbdo:

You logging a car and suggesting what mode to use and when to change gears?

Please educate me on how you take into account gradient and so forth that proves your above theory cause to me its guesswork and a opinion rather than factual comments

Ask any M135 owner and they will immediately tell you manual shifting using the pedals is good for straight line use or 400m timing where one would want to hold the car in its powerband

Also auto mode as you suggest is exactly that auto mode , its not manual mode where a user intervenes

Slight traction issues and power is immediately cut if a owner has to use your method

Sport + with everything off is the one to use with sliding the gear to the left (sport mode) and letting the box choose rpm based on a lot of factors thats built into the ECU. Owners just need to watch for sideways action.

I see you are new to the forum.Let me educate you as you ask.All testing is done on a back to back system on the track. The km track is used with the Qstarz logger and this can pick up differences that your "butt" dyno cannot. The second you lose traction your time is gone and you have lost the race.
The Vanderbijlpark airfield has two meetings a month. One for 400mts and one for 800mts.There is more than enough opportunity to do any testing in the mornings before the official event in the afternoon.

Ive found the best for me is Sport+ then hold the traction control button until dcs switches off. Slap the gear leaver to sport mode and tap the paddle into manual. Allows me to short shift out of 1st and control the gear changes so I dont drive it out of powerband. This method was good for a 12.4 qm.

So not sure if mine is the only one doing this, but I've seen when in sport or sport+ with box in manual and you pull away slowly till about 20 and then floor it, still in first, its almost like the car revs to fast for the box and there is a big delay when shifting to second right on the redline? I usually shift to 2nd at about 5500 to assist with traction (and then the shift is fast and crisp) but the two or three times I have let it run to the red in first, the last mentioned occurred.

When I do this i find that too much power is going to the rear causes excessive wheel spin, I usually stay away from sport + when running from the line or above 10km/h as for the delay I would need to test it.

Cause Im NEW. Does this mean i know less than you?

Straight to the point , what 400m times or 800m or 1km times have you done with the M135i that proves your theory works?

Im still trying to understand how logging a car tells you what mode you should use?

Hi that is a very good time.

I recommended same in my post above but the user "Phantom" seems to disagree.

Herewith best log as tested in sport with esp off.Remember our altitude is 1500m and cannot be compared to ODI that is 1200m.
With this method the car does not have that dreaded 1st to second gear 'torque hold".

Here is the best log using Sport + and in manual mode. (lever to the left)

Also note that there are three runs done in each mode.

@ Phantom

Are you now saying drivers must take into account the altitude before selecting a MODE.

12.6sec with 188km/h on STOCK CAR using your methods

Sorry SIR all I can do is but laugh at your method cause its making the car even faster than what BMW stipulates

Let a new user like myself say that all of us running the likes of JB and Downpipes and other mods are wasting our money. All we really need to do is follow your methods and we will do mid 12s with a stock M135i

I mean this in the nicest way. You a shit driver using manual mode.

Manual mode is not meant to rev till 6500rpm in every gear to get the best possible 400m times

1st gear 5500rpm , 2nd gear 6000rpm , 3rd gear as usual

60ft needs to come down to 2.0

Take tips from a newbie and go try it

What equipment are you using to log times between variance in driving technique?

Your butt dyno is not accurate. Phantom has owned and driven more bmws than you will see in your life. And here you are calling him a shit driver? Because your ass says you're faster in manual. :bravo:
