Hi, do you know of a decent, capable and non-ripoff mechanic/garage for E46 servicing in NSubs of Cape Town? Someone who knows these cars well.
Thanks

I have heard Zeemax is good, may not be north enough for you...I am south and i take my car to Bruce's Mechanical and I swear by them. Really good. Be very selective, I once took my car to Reynold's BMW workshop in Retreat for a fuel sensor calibration and when i left i had a MASSIVE fuel leak. Could have burned my car out...could have even killed me. I mean the fuel was running out like a garden sprinkler. They never apologised and made me wait when i went back. It was a big problem for them to fix their mess. I inconvenienced them terribly. That was 2yrs ago, now my car goes to Bruce's and I am very happy. Just be very careful where you go.

Want to actually take my Wife's car for a check-up for a few things that are beyond my "DIY grade" - so also keen to know where is best and most cost effective to take it to. The car is still FSH by the agents, so would like to keep that record going forward somehow...

Any more options on the list above. Specifically for a service in Northern suburbs preferably but not opposed to anywhere in CPT as long as it's good service at a decent price. 2003 318i Auto. E46. I have to get a service done in about 3 weeks (110,000 kilo's).

Has anyone used 3 Service Center in Stikland? I've been there twice and both times been fairly unimpressed by their service except for the fact that the two things they looked at were not charged for. Both times I was told that faults on the CPU were cleared and to see if the problems come back. They did come back each time. I'm thinking I want to get the service done somewhere else.

Hi ,
If interested .
In Blackheath - Rustdal - G&G Motors ,a guy called Greg - he is very good with BMW 's and do the whole diognostic thing as well.Cell 0785800856 - 021 9052346

I was also struggling with my E46 320i - still new in the game and everyone were over charging me for sh!t job till I got another fanatic and he referred me to him never had any problem ever since .

Wrong people cost you lots off money especially on a BMW - For 7 months I have my car - I spend R8K unnecessory due to time wasting places ,even registered places .Big name places you think and they let a sh!& machanic work on your car .

Hope you come right

I had my car serviced by G&G (Greg) about 3 weeks ago. I'm very impressed! It's running better than ever.

If you don't mind the extra few km's - I'd recommend my machy any day. Professional, VERY cost effective, Full time Machy at one of the well known dealerships in the southern suburbs, but stays in M/Plain and is able to source new parts. Has all the diagnostics tools and specialised tools to work on our cars and is a BMW Fan-atic at heart.

My car has been to Haven Motors, Bruce's BMW etc, but I can honestly say that the best experience I've had is dealing with this guy. Last month he replaced my valve stem seals, vacuum pump and some other seals and it cost me less than R7k - Thats with new OEM parts

If you want his detail, drop me a pm.

I took my E46 318i Individual to Fritz Lepnik. I was a bit sceptical at first, but my objective was to go the to get a quote for a service and repairs. So I had no intention of committing to anything. After talking to Fritz I could tell that he is very competent and experienced at what he does. He's very modest and doesn't advertise his services but it would be worth your while to get a quote from him. His prices are very reasonable and his work is of a very high standard.

Back in the workshop he removed the upper and lower engine covers. The oil cap was broken and leaking and there was a small crack in the bottle on the radiator. I had to get this fixed pronto so I left my car there and I told him to go ahead with the repairs.

I had the oil cap and the water bottle replaced. That plus the service cost me R4000. I am very happy with the repairs and my car is running smoothly with no issues. Fritz can be contacted on 021 982 5336 or 083 248 7647.

Can't help you with that place.

BUT, I am surprised no one here mentioned Garage808 at all. The owner and his wife is an amazing team. He used to be a mechanic for Forsdicks Tygervalley. So he is very knowledgable, and what I like most, he knows when to suggest OEM parts or non-OEM parts. Always honest and the advice usually is free. Not to mention they really take care of your car.

I also had good service at Garage808. I can also recommend Miller's Auto. The owner is a BMW mechanic with 20 years experience as well. They are based in the Northern Subs and they have a call out service as well where they drive to where you are to work on your car. You can contact them on 084 487 9945.

This thread has been quiet for a long time and I too was looking for an independent BMW mechanic in CT as I took my 750i to SMG Canal Walk with a rear door closing issue and found them to be the most unhelpful crowd imaginable and all they could come up with was book the car in for us to report on it at R900/hour! No thanks so came on here and glad I did!

Firstly, apart from the door issue needed a basic service and got a quote from Werkstatt, Parklands of R2985 (to include oil, filter at R1895, Inspection and reset services R995) When I picked the car up was told they Replaced brake fluid/vent brakes at R695 so final bill was R3585 and he quoted me R12600 for a new door lock inc fitting! I have a warranty on the car and any work done must be at a workshop that is RMI accredited and this guy at Werkstatt told me they were RMI members and it's all over his workshop office and even on his invoice but the warranty people told me he wasn't a member and so I nearly had the warranty disqualified by using him!

Also, before going in for the service there was a loud noise coming from the engine and a friend told me it sounded like my water pump so asked Werkstatt to quote on the problem which they did and also said it was the pump but now can't use them because of RMI membership so on Fri July 28th decided to get quotes at three or four places refered to on this forum and it turned out to be very interesting as follows:

1. Went to Fritz at Auto Care in Stikland as he'd got good reviews here but in asking for a quote he said it was a strip and see scenario as he thought it was more serious that the water pump and I must leave the car with him and it could take 3 weeks to repair! No thanks can't adhere to that!

2. APS - Anton in Stikland also as mentioned on here seems to know his stuff and said it was the water pump after using his 'stethoscope' to listen to the offending noise and said he would try and get a price for me later in the day but come Monday lunchtime still no prices so did what I never do and called APS back but the lady in the office had got no details of me although I gave them to her on the Friday and she said Anton will get back to me asap but still nothing until he called me Tues night and I said I need a quote asap to get the job done as I can't really use the car safely but he took far too long in quoting and so I told him I'd gone to another workshop.

3. 3 Service Centre, Stikland went there as I was in the area and they too said it was the water pump and gave me a quote on the Monday of R8854 I didn't use them as I went to Garage 808 in Bellville on my way home and glad I did!

4. Garage 808 - my last quote call on the Friday and he said it was the pump although he would report once he'd taken the pump out but they came back to me early on Monday with a detailed quote and they were RMI members so could get the job done through my warranty! They gave me a price of R1800 on a non BMW part and R4700 if I wanted the BMW water pump and the warranty co had done business with them before and so getting authorisation for the job was quite easy. I could only get a booking for Aug 10th and the car is with them right now and just waiting for the part to be delivered but should have the car back by next Tues but I'm happy with the way they have dealt with things so far and do look well organised but will sum up once the job is completed.

You can't go wrong with Colin from 808. Great workmanship, clean shop and Adele is super organized with quotes etc. APS Anton is a good guy, but just not as organized as garage 808. Anton kind of better with more heavily modified cars.
