I had a set on the M3 and they were noisy but wet and dry traction was superb taking how cheap they are. What do you have in front? If the thread pattern is too far off I'm almost certain that's your problem!

Heard some nasty things about these tyres generally - apparently they develop inner sidewall cracks which are of course not easy to spot. Happened to someone I know who had these on his Focus ST - luckily he discovered the cracks before something bad happened! Not sure about the wet grip issues, they have a similar tread pattern to the old Yokohama A539's which I always found to be pretty good in wet conditions...

ive heard that from a few dunlop tyres before aswell, i wonder then wtf is going on. ive chaned the rear arm trailing bushes with poly-urethane ones and same on the front control arm rear bushes which improved the cars stability overall. but there must be some other problem, its been in a minor front end accident wors was the bent front steering arm thats been replaced.. and wheel alignment is also perfect

They dont call it Dunflops for nothing.....

Personal experience and what I heard from other people, generally these tyres are extremely bad in wet weather irrespective of the size.

From the sounds of it, you have good grippy tyres up front and slightly less grippy (different character wet/dry) tyres on the rear - can either be fun or be downright scary!! :)

I've never had Dunlops on any of my cars so don't really have any experience with them, and before I heard of the issues with the SP Racers which at the time I was looking at fitting to my ex-Corolla, I always thought they were up there with the rest of the big brands in terms of build quality and performance. I think the major big brands have maybe been a bit complacent over the years and this is why the Hankooks of the world are catching up and in some cases bettering the big brands' offerings, and for much more reasonable money...

hmmm i see, thanks for the info guys, in the dry the tyres arent too bad, but really in the wet they are useless... any suggestions of tyres that are good wet/dry? :p

I have Dunlop SP 7000D (I think that's what it is) on my 318i and it's WAAAYYY better than the yoko's I had on before. I've gone for Dunlop SP6060 for the 540i and thus far I can't complain at all. Their quiet and have descent grip through wet and dry.

Also... if Dunlop is good enough for BMW on their M3 GT2, it's good enough for me.

I just threw out 3 235/40/17 dumplop SP sport 7000's the other day. F$%king horrible tyres, it felt like I was aquaplaning on dry roads let alone wet, and they were as noisy as anything.

Replaced them with conti sport contact 3's and the car feels brilliant on the road again :)

Also had SP7000's and they were useless. Got Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrical now. But I think they being discontinued :(

Was seriously considering the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrical tyres for my car when I was still thinking about ditching the RFT's - they seem to be of the preferred tyres on most oversees forums for the E90's. Saw them being advertised not too long ago, maybe to move the stock? Pity when they take a good tyre off the market...

I currently got Conti Sport Contact 3's also in 235/40/17 all round, excellent on dry surfaces but not too impressive on extremely wet surfaces, could feel the rear end sliding out as soon as I touched 100Km/h....

I think for both types of surfaces, Bridgestone or Michelin is the best

Aquaplanning is caused by your front wheels what loose contact the road... I some on my 330i not to bad over all for price .. on a M3 ?? Scary... I rather spend the extra R450 per tire and buy conti's...
Cheers

i had a road noise issue with SP's on my e30 - traction wet or cold was not an issue. Had a kuk traction experience with year old Bridgestone semis on a wet road (more like full slicks after a year:thumb:) )

hmm seems that everyone has a different experience lol. i dont experience much road noise with the SP Racers, but maybe its just coz it doesnt bother me.. the massive issue i have is with the aquaplaning.. definitly at the rear... even when im not giving any throttle just freeing... what if i change the tyres and i still have the problem? does anyone possibly have an idea of what could be wrong? :/
