Hey guys

Have any of you guys been to Angola?

Noticed the flights to Luanda are affordable, was considering it.

How is it?
Accommodation?
Crime?
Activities?
and so on and so forth...

dude i was in Luanda a couple of weeks back, beaches are very nice, but acroos the road from a beautiful beach is a massive slum. Not the type of place i would imagine one would go on holiday.I was there for work.....ABject poverty, very smelly.THat being said i never left Luanda so maybe someone else might know of some nice holiday resorts.....i highly doubt it though

Was based all over Angola for the UN, and more recently in Luanda for TAAG (Their national airline). Other than for business reasons, I can see no need to go to Luanda. Aggressive locals, very expensive and not much in the way of tourist attractions.
Southern Angola seems OK for a 4x4 overland type thing, but thats not what your asking.

I was there a month ago. Expensive, traffic is a nightmare, gotta be careful of what you eat,and it's not safe to go out after dark (as told to me by a local).
People are friendly enough, but infrastructure is shot, the airport is on the far side of Luanda and there is little to no public transport other than taxis that charge an arm and a leg. Everything is done in USD, local currency is kwanza and it's 100-1 against the dollar. A steak will cost you $35.A 1.5L bottle of water will cost you $5.
Rather go to Namibia.

Oh,and getting a visa is a frigging NIGHTMARE,and frigging expensive as well.

I just got off a plane from Luanda and I was born there. It is not a holiday destination, only go there for business. Its very expensive and there is no tourist attractions. Rather go to Dubai for a dune safari.

Been there many times, only go for business and then carry a fat wallet.

I went on a business trip long time ago for my old company, plane delays ect got to the hotel at 4am freaking hungry. Ordered a burger, chips and can coke. (2007 USD35.00) sent a sms to my boss, arrived safely ect and a pic of the burger and the price, boss sent sms back, Glad you safe, stop F##$$ eating!!

I have business based up there. Definitely not a place for holiday unless you going to search for something else on that side:fencelook:

Namibia you can still use ZAR, 1 NAM$=1ZAR, it's like the 10th province. They speak English and Afrikaans (and a bit of ze German) and if you're into adventure sports like quads, dune surfing, extreme 4x4 and that kinda stuff,go to Namibia. I am dying to take my family there,it's a beautiful country.
