Any reason not to?

If I drive the 330i like a grandma, what fuel economy can I expect realistically?

I realise it's going to munch gas if I nail it, but if the consumption at the least resistance isn't that bad, then I'd rather save a bit and just get the 330i

Are you going to be doing mostly town driving or highway? None of the petrol cars will give you the economy of the 1.4 you have. The diesels will and it will have the power. In all honesty once you live with a diesel BMW you will never look back. If you take the 330d and do some small exhaust mods the sound improves alot. If you are doing more highway driving then 6 cylinder petrol becomes a good contender.

Save and get the 330.

Only reason I bought my 325 was because the interior was in great nick.

Well I work for myself so I'm not stuck in the morning traffic. I do drive quite a bit though, would say mostly highway driving. Other than that the usual shops ect

I'll go test drive the D's again but my heart is with petrol so doubt it would change.

lol! this thread....:YesNo:

let me sum it up, a 320i is not much more economical than a 325-330i.
a 330i will cost more than a 320i. what you save on the 320i, will be spent on petrol, oil, and valve stem seals anyway.

a 320d, or 330d will give you excellent consumption, and power. but you dont want a diesel (just because). you want a petrol that is excellent on consumption, and you dont have enough cash for anything more than a 320i.

eventually, you will get bored with a 320i, and you'll mod it until you eventually will want to buy a bigger engined BMW.

so.... your answer? wait, save more money and then buy a car with a bigger engine which will be worthwhile and dont just jump into this blindfolded.

with all due respect to you, you do seem quite young, and i think you're in over your head with this one to be honest. you're pushing to buy into something that is going to drain your wallet quickly...and this is what people have been trying to warn you about.

Get the 6 cylinder.

I've got a 320i and its one of the most frustrating things i've ever driven. No power (when you need/want it) and not exactly light on fuel.

Diesel would offer you bang for buck, but if you hell bent on a petrol car then steer clear of the 4 cylinder.

Hi

Just some input from side.

E90 330i Automatic:

Local driving : 9L-11L /100km decent driving (fast now and again)

Highway driving : 8-8.5L/100km - between 120kph-140kph(with boot full)

I think constant 120kph will dip in the high 7's. Im impressed with my car as i really expected higher fuel consumption, especially being auto.

Goodluck.

I'm 29, being young is just matter of relevance. I'm buying cash with money saved. That is my budget for now and all I want to determine is how much it would influence my future savings.

I just wanted to prevent getting like 6km/l. I'd be comfortable with 10km/l mixed, driving like a grandma. Obviously it would go down if nailed

Thats pretty much what I wanted to hear. Right in the range of what I'm comfortable with. Could certainly live with that :) Think I've made up my mind - 330i it is need to do a bit more saving first but I'll get there eventually.

Just remember there will be maintenance as well, if the car is over 100xxxkm. And then things break as well. I am not referring to oil and filters, I am taking about belts and shocks and mounts and bushes etc.

This figure is debatable, but you would need say 20k(tongue in cheek) a year to keep it running. If you don't DIY labour cost as well.

Don't make your mind up based on my decision only...lol... Maybe some input from some other 325/330i owners as well.

Bare in mind, i have the older model ('06), but in December 2015, i purchased it with only 72k odd km on the clock with FSH. And the car was sent to BMW for check up prior to purchasing... valvetronic motor (cant remember) was changed(but nothing else was wrong) ,so i think the car was fairly healthy at time of purchase - which is important. As you cannot purchase a car with 1 sensor not functioning correctly and then you sit with a thirsty car...

Since then i have cover just over 10k km, and no problems so far. Car treats me well, and i am happy.

It's well worth the wait to save and find a clean 330i from a loving owner. You won't be disappointed

I'll make sure to do that. I'm in no rush to jump into the process blindly.

Don't think u'll save much fuel on a 2l engine - I'm getting ridiculous figures on mine.

The BMW 2l hasnt been the best compared to the other brands on both fuel and power.

If I had to chose again, rather go for the #35.
