Any reason not to?

Afternoon Guys! Friendly greeting from a new member :)

I'm looking at diving into the BMW market (currently driving a Polo Vivo 1.4). My eye has been catching the 2011 E90 320i (sport/exclusive). Primarily I'm looking at one with the least possible km's, fsh with agents and best condition. From my research, I have seen that there are some available at around R150 000 with about 80 000km on the clock.

Any reason not to go ahead with the purchase? My main consideration in me choosing the 2L over the 325i/330i is fuel consumption (obviously also price). How do the differnt models stack up in that regard? Would I be satisfied with the 320i as apposed to 325i??

Cheers for any info (sure it has been asked millions of times)

Have you considered a 320D? better consumption and power.

If you like power then 330D

Consumption on the 330i/325i is probably similar to the 320i because of how underpowered the 320i is. 320d or 330d is where its at

My dad had the 320d and then 330d. I do like the improved comsumption but I'm a petrol and manual kinda guy. At least for the time being.

If you want the power, 320i at altitude is pap.

325i is a little more satisfying.

If power doesn't concern you and you are more worried about comfort and fuel consumption, then the 320i is more than capable of pleasing you. As mentioned, 320d has lovely low down torque and better consumption.

Take a test drive?

I keep on reading this but how true is it? If the difference between the 320i and 330i is marginal, I'd obviously go for the 3L. Are there any reliability issues I need to know about any of the e90's?

I'm not at altitude :) 325i only a little more satisfying? Elaborate?

A 3.0L engine will outlast a 2.0 engine. For that reason alone, rather get the 3.0. It works less than the 2.0 to get the same vehicle moving.

Also, 4 cylinders vs 6

While this is true, and I agree with it , you could probably send a similar list like that of any car model with it's problems.

Straight six

You a petrol kind of guy...so D is out

So you are left with two choices...2.5i or 3.0i (similar consumption)

No offence to 320i but BMW are not light cars.....The 2.0 has to work to get the mass moving (which is negative for consumption)....

Then there's that thing of wishing you had gone for the bigger one...

Oops i forgot...that symphony of a BMW straight 6 (exhaust note) :tiptoe::tiptoe:

If you like petrol, then a straight six is the only way to go.
If you like a manual, then a straight six petrol is the only way to go.

BTW, have you driven a 330d up here in Gauteng?

i would definitely get a 320D over 320i (no offense to current 320i owners)
its faster, and much more economical.
if your remap it you'll be getting golf gti power with half the fuel consumption.
its a no brainer to me.

why not look at the 320D that is curretly for sale bya fellow member?

Thanks for the info. Had a good laugh at some of the memes.

It sure is scary looking at the issues, but like others have mentioned, I'm sure you'll find problems with other models too.

Appreciate it, will do some more reading.

You guys are not helpinh here. The D is certainly not in the equation. I've driven them and like I mentioned, my dad owned D's. I like the torque but I'm more of a youngster at spirit and for the time being I want the petrol.

Seems like the 325i/330i would be the better option. I'm just really concerned about gas, especially in traffic. Also, the 3L cost substantially more for the condition and year model I'm looking at. At that price you're starting to look at used F30 models.

I'm so confused now. Do I save further or do I pull the trigger

Purchasing a vehicle is never an easy decision, at least not for me.

I do appreciate all the advice

Must say, that is one neat e90. Exactly the colour I'm looking for. Unfortunately looking for the petrol model.

If you can hop into a 130 perhaps that's an option (unless the size of a 3 series is a must have). Those things go like stink and sound gorgeous...

It all depends on how you drive. Spiro on the the forum has e46 320i his consumption is great. I have e46 325i (I drive like an idiot) mine is horrible something between 11/13l per 100km.

My ou toppie has an e39 M by some magical power he manages 12l/100km in that car. Whereas I have heard form others they get around 16-20l/100km.

But lets be honesty if you can get a 330 for the same price a 320(assuming they both are of equal condition), everyone will want the 330.

Good luck with the hunt
