My understanding is it depends on the model car.
The one series don't have an "oe" tow bar. Apparently that car isn't designed to tow.
The 3 series have those "oe" ones that pack away. Most places (including bmw) it is a bmw one.

So if you took something like a 1 series, they fit bosal and sometimes other ones. I think then they just record it on your warranty as approved item.

P.s I don't believe the ones they claim are bmw are actually bmw cause I have come across 3 which "were done by bmw" but not one had bmw markings

True alot of the ones installed by the local dealers are not the OEM ones. Since the aftermarket ones are probably cheaper and easier to get.

By the way there is an option to have a factory fitted tb for the 1er. They even have a retrofit kit.

Damn it! Insurance company, panel beating company and bmw pulled a stunt on me then.
Brothers 1er got a slight bump from the back. he had a tow bar hence the above information is what I learnt from the incident

Any info, recommendations and or reviews on Webb tow-bars?

I was given a quote of R2 750.00 for a full installation on an e46 just yesterday (12 Jan 2016).

I know this thread is a month or two old.

I fitted a Westfalia removable towbar to my E46 over the weekend.
The dealer fitted and factory fitted towbars are not the same. The dealer just fits aftermarked bars...
The genuine factory oem towbars are completely different.

I picked up a Westfalia (they make them for BMW and also cast the bmw logo and part number on the bar, but still a westfalia product) removable towbar including electronics box for R1500... but that's on the "black market". It's not stolen etc but it's not at a fitment centre... Stripped it off a car being broken up for spares.

Will post some photo's in another thread...

Problem with the new models is that oem secondhand bars would be very scarce. but maybe if you do enough research you'll be able to find one on a written of car at a place that buys and strips the cars that they buy from insurance companies.

Hi chaps.
Anyone know how to solve the conversion of plug from 13 pin (Euro) thats on the trailer coupling and the 7 pin on most (if not all) trailers.

I hear BMW sells an adaptor, but its R600.
anyone have a cheaper alternative where PDC etc all work as thy should (basically disengaged wen reversing)?

Just buy the adapter and save yourself some headaches. Stupid euro plugs! I picked up one of those 13-7pin plugs from a scapyard for R150 a little while back.
