alternator issue

Hi all, I sold my '98 328i individual and bought a 330d facelift. I m having a noisy alternator bearing, big job/ small job to overhaul? alternatively who's got one to sell? does the 320d facelift alternator also fit (150 amps)?

I have heard that their alternator can be quite mission to get.

You sure it is the alternator bearing?

yeah, i released the belt and could actually shake the alternator pulley, I also used a screwdriver and felt the vibration on the alternator casing during idling. The noise is audible only during idling, gone when under load (lifting rpm)

If the pulley can be shaken is it tight ( not just pulley loose on shaft ) , there may be a colapsed bearing or wear in the housing around the bearing .

I found an alternator off the e46 320d. My old one only needs the plastic bushes, will fix it for a spare.
