Almost didnt buy a mini!

Ok, so despite the misleading topic, it holds some truth. I almost bought a Renault Megane Coupe.

Ive had my mini since 2004 and I truly love her. In her 'older' age she is starting to bother me though. Some rattles here, brake issues there etc so I decided to trade her in and get something a little more practical (the coupe has a trunk). As I was about to finalise the deal I pulled out (thats what she said)

Now, R7k or so and my mini could be good as new but I was looking to upgrade now while my mini can still get something in terms of a trade in. Best deal ive got so far is R81k. I need to do it soon so I dont lose much more value.

So im looking to trade in and get a Cooper S. Want a little more grunt this time round. Im basically looking for 2009/2010 Cooper S with less than 35,000km on the clock.

Now, my question is: If I buy a 2nd hand mini from an independent dealer, can I take it for inspection to Mini and buy a motorplan extension? Something like this http://search.autotrader.co.za/www/cars_advert?id=201048187283769
If its a 2009 model, I have only a year and a bit of the balance left (I know the link is of a 2008)

Then again, is the motorplan extension worth it if I buy something from mini next? I think they automatically give a year motorplan if its an older model

Finally, I know there was a facelift recently. Is there talk of a new model release in 2012?

Thanks,

M

Phew... Where to start...

Where are you based? Cape Town, JHB etc.

1. If you buy a AUC from a MINI Dealership we pay for the motorplan extension - Not you.
2. You can extend a MINI Motorplan to 200 000km or 7 years.
3. Trade in before 2011 as the second we sing our cheers for a new year your car will lose value big time - Try buy the new MINI before then.
4. There was a facelift recently and an update on engine power. Nothing major, mostly just cosmetic tweaks and a slight increase in vooma. But that was only implemented three months ago. Dont let this bother you. :)

I work for MINI Auto Atlantic in Cape Town. We do have some stock - However the link posted is probably a good buy me thinks.

Give a gent called Dean a call at Lyndhurst Auto MINI. He is an absolute star and will do a fabulous (no joke) deal for you. He can also run a VIN check etc etc on this car and see if he can get you either a better deal or something similar but rather from a MINI Dealership.

I hope that helps?

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the reply. Ultimately I would like to buy from a mini dealership. At least I know they wont sell me a dud.

I am based in JHB/PTA so I will see if I can pop out of the office for a second as Lyndhurst Auto is about 10 minutes drive from here. Ill see if I can get a good deal on a demo or a Next. Obviously I would love to upgrade to a Cooper S but dont want to stretch the budget too much.

Afterall, what fun is life if all you have is a nice car and you cant afford to take it anywhere ;)

Thanks for the help.

Last question, any idea by how much my trade in will drop next year.

I have a 2004 Cooper
Chilli pack
Black
103000km
No MP left

Cheers

P.S - I have the last Mayfair Cooper in stock in SA. Style and limited edition model. Exactly as the pics but with roof in body colour. Lovely machine and extremely nicely specced.

Its yours for R245 000 delivered (NEW). Thats a R30 000 discount. Hehe.

By the way... A new standard cooper with no options starts at R230 000. Seeing the value?

Will ask our valuator today for you about the MINI and how much it will drop.

Mention to Dean that I sent you though.

Hey there

That is correct. You paid R220 500 for the base Mayfair and then it was an extra R25 000 to add the Mayfair Extra's.

The Mayfair we have is the spec in the proposal attached. The only difference is that ours is the Hot Choc Metallic paint and does not have xenons. The xenons were standard in the UK. But an option in SA.

Take a look at the proposal attached and let me know what ya think. :)

The numbers in the proposal are correct... However since this car arrived there have been price increases hence why the "discount" on this car is as much as it is. Especially considering the spec. A base Cooper now starts at R230 000 and if you specced even half of what this car has it would come in at R260 000 and still not be on par with the Mayfair's price.

So to correct myself. There is a R15 000 discount and over R30 000 saving when buying the Mayfair over a standard Cooper with a similar spec. Make sense?

What do you think?

Mike

Also note.

Your trade in, finance etc etc can all be done electronically and when we do delivery I will have the car transported to JHB and will then fly up to do delivery for you.

In fact... Im flying up on friday to deliver a Red Countryman S. :excited:

Hey Mike,

So I went and saw Dean. We took the Cooper S for a test drive and after that experience, I definitely cannot go for anything other than an S. It was brilliant. Huge difference from my current cooper. Looks like I will be buying an S from him. Just crunching the numbers. :)

Thanks for your help and the great offer. I appreciate it.

Good luck with the delivery of that sexy countryman. lovely car.

Cheers! :)
