All time new stupid parts price

Ok so never mind the R70000 E30 dash.....

A switch for an E34 M5 electric rear headrest. There is nothing special about it, in fact it's a really badly made cheap plastic rocker switch with no electronics or anything odd inside. I'm almost surprised BMW put such a crappy switch in a car, the cheapest junk I have ever seen, must cost $1 to make.

Their price R2200 per switch! I would need two, one for each headrest, so that's R4400 for $2 worth of switches.

Why BMW, Oh why keep stuff in stock that no normal person even if they are a billionaire would ever buy because the price defies all rational reasoning?

Somebody in the parts dept needs to actually start doing some active thinking when applying prices to parts instead of letting a computer generate it.

That is just insane.

No man! How can they warrant prices like this and sleep at night?

Bloody ridiculous I tell you.

I wonder how much it would cost if a person were to buy all the parts from BMW to assemble a car...... Rx,xxx, xxx.xx :)

Someone on the forum should start a business of importing OEM parts and selling it below half price of what stealers are charging..... I would rather support this guy

Rick: I'm starting to wonder if our local stealer isn't making up their own prices. It should be against the law to ask those prices. Should actually go ask the dealer next to the R44 towards Stellies for interest sake.

+1 Post the part number and lets check with the stealers here in GP. I recently got different prices from 2 stealers here in PTA. I called the more expensive dealer back to ask why they charge higher, the answer was simply " some dealers can allow discounts & we don't " - a**hole

This is true I have experienced this myself some dealers do give you a discount when you ask or when you tell them you cant afford the part, while some just wont budge.

Still Dealer prices are :argh: ridiculous even after discounts

usually if you multiply the dollar price on realoem by 10, it is very close to the dealer price here, although I have noticed the odd items that are way over inflated here, case in point, transmission mounts for my car are $16 each in the states, and R650 each here at the dealer. I imported 2 E46 M3 mounts which are a nice upgrade to the e36 smaller ones, and paid just over R500 landed incl all costs.

why is no one importing these parts and selling them in SA? seems like there is money to be made if you bringing in large amounts...

Not everything is loads cheaper. The local stealer quoted me R2000 for the Clutch slave cylinder I need for the 540 and if I get it from the states it works out about R1800 excl Customs. Only upside is that I won't have to wait 3-4 weeks if I get it from the states.

But then again, I bought a brand new clutch kit from the states, had it shipped here, and had it fitted for about R2000 less than what the local stealer wanted for JUST the clutch kit. :shakehead:

Apparently a few companies have tried something along these lines and had all goods confiscated via court order obtained from BMWSA lawyers.

Just have a look at autostyle website as well, they are very careful to add (non-original) to all the BMW parts.

Hi All,

I recently bought a 120i, with run flats, wanted a spare wheel kit, 3 different stealers - 1. R5800, 2. 4250 and 3. R3900, went to a scrap yard, found the wheel, spanner and jack for just over R1350.00

Hows that?
