Aircon regas maybe?

Hi guys.. This is the first car I have owned thats aircon doesnt work so I need some help...

How do I know whether the aircon is faulty, or the aircon clutch is faulty or if it needs a re gas and if it has a pipe leaking gas..

Here's the backdrop. Bought the car aircon was not working.. took it in for new aircon clutch and re gas... it worked, borrowed the car to my pops for a few months, got it back in winter(no need for aircon)... in summer turned it on.,.. and ............... NOTHING! f**king hot as hell..

When I press the snowflake I hear a psssshshhhshsh sound adding to the fan so I assume the clutch is engaging, or am I wrong... should I just stop being a scrouge and get it regassed to see, or can I maybe find if it has a leak before I re gas. and how do I know the clutch is really engaging.

Get it regassed with the dye they put in it, then you can find the leak.

If the dye is already in from last time all they need to do to find the leak is shine a UV light all over it.

Had my aircon regassed couple months ago.

They add a neon green dye into the aircon system to check for leaks before they add the gas.

Any decent place would check for leaks before re-gassing. Zeemax doesn't mind you. A guy in Fish Hoek is currently replacing the seals on my compressor. With my last service they re-gassed and it lasted 2 days. Took it to Terry and he immediately saw dye all over the compressor.

Get it regassed and monitor.

my brothers 318i has a leak. he regasses at R200 once a year. at R200 per year its much cheaper than paying to get the leak repaired. The aircon still cools lekker.


Here is some food for thought. You should run your aircon for at least a short while every few days or so.

The gas within the aircon system acts as a lubricant for the seals within the aircon system. Not using the aircon would see the seals getting dry and brittle and not sealing what theyre supposed to. Then you have a leak to worry about.

Kyalami aircon and electrical is apparently R300 for a aircon service, and R200 to fix a leak, going to take it there after pay day :fencelook:
