Hi, this is the problem and some insight from anyone who experienced similar would be appreciated.

The aircon is not cold at all. i regased (fully and properly) it , when i put it on, the side vents are slightly cold and the centre vent is not too cold either. i even have the setting on 16 degC. what could be the problem here/ i know the compressor is working cause if i switch A/C on or off i feel the slight kick. Please assist

Hi , position is on 3 blue points which is supposed to be the coldest. even the air coming from the sides are not cold as it suppose to be. This is strange

Could possibly be the Heater Valve.. Plays an important role in the Aircon system.

the Evaporator / Condensor dont usually give up, but it doesnt hurt to check those out.

also possible that whilst the compressor does kick in, that a leak on one of the seals exists.

Hi, Dont think it is a leak on the seals. When i regased it, the system was still almost full. I thought maybe it was the gas quality that was in the system so i regased it, this didn't help. Tell me about this heater valve and how to fix , is it a DIY and how do i do it ? thanks mate

could it be the blower perhaps?..:dunno:

the blower is in order, i can increase or decrease the blower speed and feel it to be effective, can even hear it to be increasing as i press the increase button. i dont want to go to the dealers cause they probably gona knock me with the price of repairs, might be something small which i can sort myself but i dont know...

It is probably the expansion valve. I had the same problem. They just re-gassed mine a couple of times and the valve started working again.

could be , but im not going to regas the system again. the aircon guys only want to regas at every place i called. i determined to sort this problem out, it is very strange. I did some read up and nobody seemed to actually give a solution. The heater valve was 1 guys fault, apparantly the heater valve was stuck in a slight open position therefore allowing heated air to combine with the aircon air. Nevertheless it could be sumthing else, i hope more people give input here and thanks to you guys too..

Hey buddy, does your outside temperature sensor work? If not then that is most probably the reason, secondly, might be your HVAC control unit (This is currently my problem for my aircon). Best is to plug in a diagnostics cable and check it..

Doe you have a BC stalk? If so check the outside temp, if it's showing less than 16 degree then you have found your problem.

I had the problem in my E46 320d
After regas it only worked for a day and then nothing!

It was the Evapurator, it's a common fault on the E46 i was told, and not a cheap job

The best place to take your car is Auto Aircon / Silverton Radiators in Edenvale. Ive tried searching for Auto Aircon, but its hard to get their number.

coincidentally they are also the Silverton Radiators thats based in Edenvale.

These guys are the serious professionals, and will not bullshit you. They also have all the correct diagnostic equipment to ensure that your car is sorted. Trust me, I have been to their workshop, and these guys are so good that they run a school for automotive airconditioners where they teach people everything about aircons, from the theory to how to completely rebuild airconditioner systems.

AUTO AIRCON:
38 Plantation Road
Eastleigh Edenvale
Gauteng Province

P.S. I have no personal affiliation to them. Just found them to be extremely professional, competent and well priced.

Hi guys, thanks for the messages. I sent the car in to an electrician buddy of mine, he has the BMW diagnostics kit. He told me that a fuse was blown, so anyway he replaced the fuse and says the aircon is working perfectly now. So il pick it up in the afternoon and check it out. Will inform you all, hopefully its all good and i will get the exact details then you guys will know for future reference something additionaly to look at. Cheers

Hi all, anyway i got my car back. The aircon is great, good as new. the problem was the fuse that controls the heater control valve. the fuse was blown. so if you have the same problem, check the fuses first. Cheers
