AIRCON CONDENSOR

I took my E36 M3 to have the aircon checked on Saturday and found out that the condensor is stuffed, according to the aircon guy. He quoted me R2250 to supply and fit an aftermarket / compatible unit. Does anyone on the forum have any idea of the pricing on these things?
I checked realoem and find that the unit is discontinued so cannot check pricing....dont want to even contemplate checking with the stealers although if it shows discontinued on realoem then the stealers should not be able to supply?

Is the old one rebuildable? I would be scared of using aftermarket.

No too sure .... the guy had some fancy gadget with a flexible antenna type thing that beeped and he moved around the condensor area and as he got to the leak area it beeped faster. I suppose that I would need to get the existing one off the car and have a good look at it. Seems like quiet a bit of work.

I had an aftermarket one installed on my Mini. It fitted perfect and works perfect. Price sounds about right as well. The OEM versions are x2 - x3 the price.
You can install it yourself, it's an hour job tops. I think he's probably ripping you a bit on the labour.

I got my condenser for just under R2000. I forgot which company supplies them though.

Thanks Mike S. The price quoted by the Aircon guy of R2250 includes both supply and fitment. Seeing as you paid round about R2000, would the price quoted to me not be a good deal? I'm assuming that the condensor prices would be more or less the same.

Do you remember what brand of unit went in? Was it from one of the OEM suppliers like Bosch or Valeo?
