Airbag warning after moving seat

Hi,

So I currently have the issue of the airbag warning light coming on, (MRS) Restraint System Failure (CC-ID 97) after having moved my seat.

I tried reconnecting the yellow connector, didn't help. Tried disconnecting the battery for 20 mins, didn't help. After some research I found that the warning can only be cleared by a coding tool(INPA), which I don't have. Contacted the dealer and they can clear it for a very pretty penny, was wondering if anyone knows which coding tool is required and the cost as I have searched but get various responses with nothing specific?

I have used OBDII reader but that's not able to reset the airbag warning or even give a more specific reason for the error.

The BT cable above is one of the options, the other is the INPA software, EDIBAS server and cable. Rheingold is also an option, but also requires a cable and the EDIBAS server. What area are you in? Maybe one of the helpful fanatics that have the cable and software is nearby and willing to help.

UPDATE/Info: I called around and Steves Auto Clinic asks R450 for diagnostic and code clearing, BMW charges R550 for code clearing only no diagnostic

Well the code clearance is the only way you going to get rid of that error code. You could pay them for it or just go buy a diagnostics tool in Roodepoort https://www.electromannsa.com/ to remove the code yourself plus have a proper diagnostics tool or you could buy a INPA Cable from http://www.obdworx.co.za/ , believe Gert sells them still and get the INPA software to reset the error and have a proper diagnostic tool to work with when things goes wrong.

I dont find it funny when someone just needs to erase a code, like 2 min and asks you R550 for it or even anything. I had to do diagnostics on my car and those diagnostic prices rocked up, I ended up forking out a little more for the cable and the tool, yes R5K but I can now check my car myself for errors and save that go quickly to bmw for a diagnostic check and pay R800 each time. People want to make a quick buck :RedNo:

Yes, I do realize that, I just posted those prices for info for anyone reading. I am also of the opinion that getting my own scanner will be best.

Someone did a scan for me just now and the code on the reader is 93AE, MRS: Active head restraint, left. This is strange to me as I got the error while moving the driver side seat

Dont think this is wise as you will bypass the one thing that could mean the difference between life or death :thinking: You do know that by that sensor light being on that the airbag is disabled and will not work in case of an accident

Hi Guys...have the same problem...previously the error came up and ross duncan removed it.while driving recently the error came back.not sure what is causing this.even if the seat is moved back and forth depending on driver height that should not trigger the error.

I have read various forums and explanations and this warning seems to come up a lot and for different faults.

My speculation is that the cable under my drivers seat was somehow disconnected which caused problems, reason for saying this is that it's described in many diy videos when changing or replacing a seat that you need to disconnect the battery first or this error will show up.

So my airbag light was fixed by John Lodder from BMW Leo Haese Pretoria(Hatfield) :ty:, as John explained it seemed to be worn out or possibly damaged connectors on the cable under the seat that connects to the harness.

I learned that John is a very friendly guy who is willing to help, will definitely take my car there for it's next service. :=):

An undisclosed amount, but according to john a kit is available for +- R1000 for the connectors, obviously excluding labor
