airbag costs

Afternoon all

Had a mishap this weekend with a mates 530i. Swerved for a doggy dog and clipped a kerb. It was raining and when I countered I lost the back at slow speed.

However, the impact was enough to pop the side airbags, seats and curtains. How much could the cost be and who could do this in case the insurance doesn't cough. He had a bit of a baldy on the back.

Thanks

If the side airbags popped, I would have the car evaluated/checked properly - especially all the suspension bits.

Even if you get the airbags replaced, there may be more severe damage, as airbags sensors need to detect a substantial impact/damage before triggering.

+1 on what MSM said, remember the cars are build so the triggers only go if if really needed to deploy the airbags.

What is "having a baldy on the back" :fencelook:

The first thing the assesors do is check the condition of the tyres, I would suggest he have them replaced before the assessor see's the car!

Baldy is a worn tyre, only saw it afterwards...

It's an E39. I checked the suspension and all the control arms and everything is fine. It's only the lower wishbone on the left that moved on the rear axle. I'm sure this can be loosened and re-aligned according to spec?

I was driving about 40-50, no other damage done. only the left rear wheel had been misaligned and the rims scratched. I have a 528i and have driven through potholes that were worse and my bags didn't deploy.

The airbags are cheap compared to the price of a new headliner and doorcard (more than 30k for those 2).

Good luck. I'm sure Leonard can sort you out. Oh yeah, and a curtain airbag replacement means the dashboard and headliner needs to come out.

Just finished a quote on an E90 with 2 popped air bags.

Just the 2 airbags, new dash, and the pyrotechnic battery breaker....

My Cost....

36k.
