Air Con Problims

Hi guys
Well this has happened on my 2002 318i Auto

About a month ago my aircon suddenly stopped working.

Worked fine the night before , the next day it was out.

When I press the snowflake button on the dash i hear a wirring noise coming from the engine bay, i feel the temp change little but nothing else.
Air blows from the fan as normal,its just not cool

The Wirring noise seems to get louder as the reves get higher and softer as the revs get lower.

Any idea what it could be?
Are there any good aircon shops in durban that i could take my car to? Pref one that thats good but wont empty the pocket.

Open the bonnet and have someone turn on the aircon (while the car is running), you should be able to hear if the aircon compressor is working. (when looking at the engine from the front the compressor is bottom left).
From description it would seem to me to be either the magnetic clutch of the A/C compressor or the compressor itself that is faulty, but this is just my opinion based on my limited experience.

Will try that out this afternoon, Strangly it also sounds like the noise is coming frm under the dash, will try it out tonight.

Wanna of the hottest days on JHB history, and my aircon doesn't work properly. FML... Where can I go, close to sandton, where I can sort out this problem and not get ripped off? I'm hoping it just needs gas.
