Bought my first M E92 when I was 28 years old, I'm 30 years old now and have an M4 on order  With that being said, I've never been able to justify the price for the E92 and I'm finding it extremely difficult to justify the price on the M4 considering that there are so many other options in that price bracket....loving cars is a curse lol :thumbdo:

Why don't you just wait a few years and save yourself R500k in depreciation.. ?

I can't wait to go for a drive in an ///M4, my initial reaction, on paper, is that it's not the kind of car that the previous generations were, which will be a real pity. If the ///M6 is anything to go by, I don't think I'm going to like the ///M4:cry:
I have the same fear... People buying them now will of course not say the cars are bad and be so over joyed with their purchase and would be biased... I've driven the new M5, and sure it's fast but def being turbo charged it's not very m car-Ish when compared to the previous generations... And this m4 I feel the same... more closer to a current shape m5, then a e92 v8 m3. But I need to drive one to find out :)

Turbo cars for me have similar characters... That's what made the M so special and unique, the character the NA motors had. Let's see

I agree. Turbo's have fundamentally changed the character of the new M cars. They aren't for me.

hmmm interesting topic.... did these same guys that bought
their m3's cash in their 20's also buy property?

theres no ways i would have afforded to also buy a //m cash
in my 20s...

Don't think anyone in here said they bought their ///M3s cash

Agreed, I guess time will tell, I really REALLY hope our fears are not realised in this car cos I've been a die hard ///M fan since school, would really HATE to concede to Kimeran and get a 63 next:cry:

I'm a huge fan of N/A motors, was impressed by the N63 in the 550i. I'm sure the S55 wouldn't leave me disappointed.

There's just that something that takes away from the whole experience when it's turbochared though.

Actually brought my M3 in 2010, then the house 2012. Both were finance:=):

Now thinking back, I don't regret paying for the M3, but should have been wiser... but house prices were up the roof around 2009/2010... but hey, YOLO right....

Will most likely downgrade next year, there's no ways I'll be able to buy a brand new M3, the depreciation is just too crazy...

It's never been your average "youngsters" car...
I would say its a bell curve between ages 25 to 45...
After 45 people complain about their backs and buy soft luxury vehicles ;)

Sorry but I got my first M3 (E$^ conv) brand new with 39....with 40 I bought additionally M3 E30 and M3 E36 3.0ltr...sold all before I left Germany....

with 47 I bought my first CSL here in SA.....

You might recognise that I am still enjoying the M3...:inlove:

+1 no offence to those who can afford it and don't mind the depreciation knock, personally in my situation I am perfectly happy with a clean 2yr old example of the breed:thumbs:

Again, having driven your car in JHB, I can confidently say if I was staying in JHB I would have never bought an M3, I would definately have that 63:thumbs:

I'm sensing a lot of negativity for the f80
I have owned all the m's except the e30
My e92 is five years old and although it was a beautiful car it can't be compared to the f80
How often do you really use the higher end of the Rev range in that car
And u can feel sick when a gti that cost one third the price comes and play with u and u can only pull away from him over 200
Now with the new car I can assure u at any speed u just press and u gone
Bmw has also just launched the new i8 which has an electric motor and a 1.5ltr turbo motor which does 0-100 in under 5s
Now that's technology for me. I wonder what u guys said when they replaced the carb with fuel injection. Did you'll not say that we can't make more power by replacing the needles. I think comment should be reserved till u have driven the new car
Check behind the car magazines and there is only a handful of cars that can perform like the new M and they cost nothing less than 2.5 bar
I salute u bmw M for building a fine car

Firstly, it's not negativity, I am just unsure of the new M as they are now Turbocharged, against the grain of the traditional M car, I have driven the new M6 and although stupidly fast, it lacks character, which, for me, has been the selling point of any M car, to invoke the senses. secondly, I use the higher end of the rev range everytime I drive my car:joy: Thirdly, my car was never bought to solely whip a gti when he crosses my path, so I couldn't be bothered if one has to tear me a new one. Fourth, I have nothing against technology or improving efficiency, I have no doubt that the new M cars are crazy fast, both in a straight line and in the twistys, but that's not why I love M cars, I love them for a reason I can't even explain to be honest, and THUSFAR the new M3/M4 hasn't made an impression on me, I am basing what I say on the current M6, who knows, maybe my opinion will change once I drive the new M3, but until then, it's not up to scratch.

Ps, I am not saying that my opinion in ANY way matters or should matter to anyone, I'm just giving my 2c worth:thumbs:

Pps, I am not hating on anyone getting the car, just sharing my opinion

Ppps, Long live the ///Motorsport

i have been in a 997 Turbo Porsche even the 997 GT2 ... and boy do they go .... but i still would take a 911 GT3 over them any day ... GT3 is slower, but oodles character ... at some point having faster is not the thing for me ... i want to drive a special car like an M and enjoy it and want it to bring a smile to my face ... if i want fast i have a 12.9 sec car already  ... kidding kidding ... M isnt just about fast its about enticing most of our senses ...

a 325is ... drive that and you know what character is ... drivers cars ... slow as hell by today's standards ... but those that have this car know what im talking about

saw a white M3 4 door on the road toady ... it sure is pretty ... def allot better looking than in pics ...

Agree 100%!
Its not about beating a GTi and I highly, HIGHLY doubt BMW were considering the GTi when making any of the M variations!
There's just something about an N/A motor than a turbocharged car just can't replace...

I think a more apt analysis would be the average age of a driver that drives a free-hold M car... I think by having the car financed, it essentially belongs to the bank :thumbsdo:

But an M car = awesome anyway, whether financed or not

I always wanted an E36 since I was 17. Glad I got mine at 29 otherwise I would have probably killed myself.:fencelook: I did a LOT of stupid stuff in my twincams:blab:
