Advise needed for a private sale

I am in the market for a used BMW 760.
I am very concerned about the status of the car, for instance, is the car stolen or how to register the car in my name as this is a private sale. Is there a way to make sure everything is kosher before I hand over the money?

IMHO the car must have licence disc on , write down VIN number , engine number and registration number . You can check the vin at a BM dealer -correct car etc . Police will check if motor is not stolen -should show reg number .Reg no can be checked at municipality .
Seller must have registration document , if car was financed the reg cert will have Title holders name which is financing institution and owner is present owner .The car if paid for must be registered in the owners name then title holder and owner are same person .If not you will most likely not get the car registered in your name ( you are 3 rd party here !! )
Cois will skiet die bliksem if he tries to take you for a ride !!

Thank you very much, I wrote down the VIN number on the license disc and it checked out when I went to BMW to get a new battery.

The car is paid of and on a companies name, the seller has offered to go with me to the license office to do the transfer of ownership.

One get so many warnings of schemes and I am trying my best to stay positive but I want to be alert and prepared to the best of my abilities to try and make sure everything goes well.

I bought an Isuzu in 1998, from a reputable dealer. He acquired it from some dude that was under liquidation and flogged all his stock (whilst under liquidation). That Bakkie was one of them. Next thing I knew an officer of the court was knocking on my door. I had the police check it out as well and could not find anything wrong with the vehicle.

Not saying this is the case, I just share my experience - so be cautious.

Where can I find out if the company on which name the car is registered is not under liquidation?

I take it if I buy the car before the company goes under liquidation it should then be ok?

I think this is sorted, I got copies of all the documentation, I also got a letter from the accountants stating the company is not under liquidation so if nothing else goes wrong tomorrow is the big day...
