I need some good advice from my fellow fanatics.
I decided to upgrade.I drive 2001 330i auto.My budget is for max R320k.Question is what to buy.Bmw or Merc.On the Merc I'll get a 24,5% discount at my work.(My company belongs to Mercedes etc).
I'm thinking about the new A-class, that will be available in December.Or a 2011 330d.
This car won't be a daily drive.Mostly weekends etc.Any advise etc will be appreciated.

Come on..... you don't want to compare an A-Class with a 330d

Well what are you looking for from a weekend car?
Some fun?

OR some fun WITH frugality!

2011 330d all the way.

The A-class, although being discounted and new, may just bore you into a sombre comatose state, albeit it not a bad car, but its no sactuary from the hell that a week can give you.

Being shoved back by 620NM of torque by a turbocharged 6 cylinder though, hmmm. Now we talking!

A class:nonono:

With 25% discount you could probably get a brand new C class 2.0l diesel for less than R300k...:fencelook:

But if you can get a 2011 330d for R320k:thumbs:

Did you guy saw the pics etc of the New A-class?
Not so bad at all...Check it out.
But its not a Bmw.Any other suggestions? I like it sporty and practical. The F30 320D is just to expensive.

Hey bud if you looking at the brand new market and your budget is R 320k , you might as well keep your 330i as you won't get the same feeling from whatever BMW or Benz you buy brand new for R 320k .

I would suggest

E90 330d , 320d , 335i ?

The new A class is a stunner. But the test is in the drive. The previous A's were prone to fall over.

330d and not cos I am bias. A decent C Class may still contend, but not that.

+1...new C-class you can still consider..but an A-class as a wknd car...you'll spoil every wknd you ever have after that...remeber you going from a E46 330i..I had the 330Ci...wrote off but loved it to bits..:nonono:..sigh...rather get the 330d
...as a run-around car..then yeah mayb an A-class

The plan is to trade or sell the 330i plus R50k cashand pay about R5k.What can I get.The fun factor is important. And resale value.I've done about 45k km in the past 5 years with the 330i.

I think that after you test drive both options the decision would be obvious ...

You WILL regret buying an A-Class Merc...

E92 330d Auto is a fantastic car.

If you were to choose between a Merc and a BMW, why not look at similar models.

If you were considering a 330d, why not look at the Merc equivalent, the C320CDI. the Merc is down on power and torque compared to the BMW, but it is a more comfortable yet a less engaging drive than the BMW.

I like the look of the new A class, but I would not consider it for a weekend car.

the 330d is the better option for a weekend car. Excellent drivers car, lots of power and torque and still pretty comfortable. My opinion is not biased towards BMW, just weighing the options and the BMW comes out tops.

if you could get a 335i, then by all means do it.

Even better, if you can get a e46 M3, then definitely go for it. Its not a new model car, and you wont get Motorplan. but as a weekend car, I doubt you'd find a better car.

I agree with everybody that says the new A class cannot compare to any BMW, especially as a weekend car.

Although the A class is one hell of a looker, as a weekend drive, its just not special enough. Not even close. And when you compare it to a 330d...
:nonono: Doesn't stand a modicum of a chance

Your budget is pretty decent, you can get something very special for those kinda monies!
