Hi guys

I am in the process of buying a 1994 m3...its actually my 2nd choice, 1st bieng 325is evo2 but i couldnt find a clean one... anyways the M3 is absolutely immaculate, eveythings original, even the exhaust system, it doesnt have a single scratch on it or mark. the only thing changed on the car was the audio system...just an mp3 player. it has full service history most of it by BMW but its just above 200 000kms...thats whats worrying me. I need to know the chances of this thing breaking down coz of the mileage...please advise if im putting myself in a trap or am i making a good decision?

Thanks guys

If it has full service history sounds like a good deal and if it is as immaculate as you say with no scratches, it has probably been cared for.

They are good cars!

Is it for you everyday ride?

bud do you want to drive or mod the car? What is it going for? on that mileage nothing more than R85k
coz ive seen some nice ones in that price range! but you will love that car!
Very reliable cars even under wild driving conditions! always use best oil and never gun when not on running temperature!
they are build for half million KM's! i would recommend you take that cars VIN nr to a BMW dealer and get some history on the car!

Maybe pay for a AA test, it is about a 100point check. Pay for the test, it is worth the peace of mind and if the owner has nothing to hide he should allow it.

Plus go to BMw with the Vin, and see if you can get a print out of the history of the car.

thirdly take some friends along when you check the vehicle, what you might not pick up, one of your friends might.

@ Streetracer....So true, at times we get so excited it is easy to overlook the obvious, then when you do notice it is too late:bawling:

But one thing you must always have in mind! ///M3's are not cheap to fix! 3.0l is better of then 3.2 but still expensive!
I paid R10 800 for a new fuel pump.. so before you buy.. phone Bemows, Auto fever etc and Agents to check parts prices and availability! and think clearly if its a car that will not put you in a tight spot when i breaks down!
Also get some insurance quotes!

Im not putting you down to buy one.. I will buy 10 more! one in each color! best car ever built I.M.O! but just think about every thing past the fun factor of the car!

Sound like a well cared for car.
Doesn't sound like there are any hidden issues.
You will enjoy the car.
I have seen cars with half that mileage, that are abused, in terrible states etc.

Lets put it this way, you have found one, which is WELL cared for. Thats all you can ask for when looking for such an old rare car. Been there, just like you.

Chances of things going wrong with a well cared car, are much less than an abused car.
With that said, budget for normal wear and tear. Clutches, brakes, shocks, are a bit expensive, but not over the top. Even VW will charge R15000.00 these days for a clutch change on a polo.....
So weigh the options.

mileage is just a number! If he wanted 2changeit he couldve and u wouldnt know, check books and vin, those m3s have less gadgets than the newer bms, real beauty! gudluk

I got an AA test guys..all clean.. dats the 1st thing i ask for, i took 3 of my friends to c the car and they were all stunned...car has no comments from bmw...he has the original service books with fsh up to date and the last service was done 3 weeks ago...new tyres new shocks new clutch...R105k....but if you say that they were built to do 500k mileage it puts my mind at ease, i got a buddy that has a 318i M from brand new...its 1996 and is doing 700 000kms! WITHOUT HAVING DONE AN OVERHAUL...and its still running strong

Sounds like a good buy.

Plus give it 5 yrs or so and see how hard to find these cars become, just look at how the 325is is sort after and the prices they sell for!!!

Definately post some pics, she sounds like a looker!

Bargain with the guy- and be prepared to keep some extra cash to fix things- parts are expensive< just a word of warning.
i bought a clean one and with in the first few months the clutch went- its one of those things, but like i said you never know.
i also did a 100 point check and took it to my mechanic to check out-
