If you looking at reliability with minimal running cost then go with the 330d. If you after performance then 340i is definitely the route to go, but be prepared for the running cost that comes with it. :cartel:

I wen't for a drive in KrS24,s 340i and man was it an insane car! This was before any mods were done or anything like that. The interior was beautiful and it sounded great. The way it built power was great, it definitely wasn't revvy! it built power from the get go just like a 330d.

To put this into perspective, I've owned a E46 330d in the past and I have driven in a few E90 LCI 330d's and a F30 330d. None felt like that 340i, it has allot to do with the sound which makes up allot of a driving experience with any car or bike.

If you get either one of these cars just make sure to service it every 3000 - 5000km and I don't think you will have any issues provided it was looked after by the previous owner.

Gents, I'm struggling to find b58 engine/cylinder failures. Were the failures specific to certain years, 2015 presumably? What could have caused the engine failures? Overheating or rod bearing issues or what? I have seen that these cars seem to have low coolant issues, which are apparently caused by a faulty cap?
How many on this forum have had or personally heard of a B58 engine problem?

Good question there. How is the N55 holding up? It seems like its quite reliable, bar the the common bmw petrol engine problems. I was looking for a car with a bit of motor plan to be honest. However, I've owned my e90 330i lci for 5 years outside MP with zero issues, except for a xenon bulb that had to be replaced.

Manual versions on the B58 where a problem from launch. Bmw stopped producing them. I know quite a few guys who struggled to setup the JB4 on the b58. I seen a few popped turbos. 3rd gear torque limiter is the biggest issue most b58 owners face. That and lean AFR's. I don't know anyone personally whose engine popped but I do believe there are 1 or 2 people on the forum experiencing engine issues.
