Hi Guys,

I currently drive a Ford Figo :(. But i have found a BMW 120i M Sport A/t (2008 model) for sale with 55000Kms on the clock for sale for R 140 000. Car is very neat and i checked out its service history at Supertech and it seems the car has been very well taken care of. Car belongs to an older man who uses his bakkie most of the time so doesnt need the car and its parked off most of the time.

Im 24 and I only i currently am paying R3000 a month for my figo (with insurance) and i have no service plan. As the 120i is approaching the end of its 7th year BMW says they cant offer me a maintanance plan however, i got a quote from Hollard who offer a maintenance plan on the car for approx. R500 a month and covers around R100k on the car in terms of mechanical failure.

I dont earn alot- about R8000 a month so i need to know if its advisable to buy the car? Mileage is super low, thats why im considering it. anything i should know about the E87??

I pay 4000 on my e90 Auto with insurance.. Pay a bit more fuel but its a better car , and you get more car for what you paying and i use it daily.

Check exactly what they cover and when Things unfortunately do happen later
on. Fuel cost . maintenance, There is 2 or 3 places that the bmwfanatics guys always suggest that work on Beemers at good cost too so you also have that.

Went from my VW tdi to my E90 and haven't looked back since.

Good Luck !

Hi,

Keep the Figo, it will be cheaper to maintain in a long run, once you paid it off then you can go for the 1 series, probably that time you will be able to 135 at reasonable price.

Dude, don't take this the wrong way but at R8000 a month, you lucky you even got away with owning a Figo. If you going to go for BMW, rather do it with one on motor plan if you lucky as if Hollard have to ask you to co-pay for a major mechanical breakdown...its going to hurt your pocket judging by what you say you earn.

Do yourself a favour and stick with the Figo for now (if it is a petrol one) or go for a cheaper & newer car.

I am 28, and I have been in your shoes before...believe me when I say I have seen people go this way and it wasn't the best choice once the novelty wears off...

All the best with you decision going forward bud.

Thanks guys,

No offence taken- thats why i disclosed my salary- my major consideration is whether i can afford it if stuff happens to the car. I also drive to alot because of my job and i cant afford a breakdown as i have no other car at home. Guess i just want a nice car thats fun to drive really badly(and have always been a huge BMW fan!)! Guess i have to just bide my time and wait till it i can afford it properly

You guys have been a major help!!

I would not advise you to buy the BMW. The 120i will be much heavier on petrol than the Figo, and your insurance will be a considerable amount more. You also got to look at things like replacing tyres, servicing etc. No warranty will cover wear and tear items. I say, keep the Figo and save up a nice deposit towards buying your BMW later on.
