Hi guys,

So I think I narrowed my selection down  def want to climb into a BMW as my next car.

I'm going to be looking at 320d's, would like to get a auto as I don't want to have issues with clutches etc so how is the Auto boxes in the E90's

Now I know you get the 2005-2009 115kw and then is it 130kw or 135kw? How will you know witch is witch, different engine codes?

I've read that most of the people have problems with the Crankshaft Dampener Pulley is that an expensive job?

Would like to get in a MSport model :inlove:

Don't want to spend to much so ill prob look at max 150k so the car will have more than 100k km but dont want to buy a high mileage like say more than 140k km

Hi there,

From my experience so far, the auto has been excellent and from what I've heard they are very reliable as well.

Regarding the motors' outputs, as far as I know the '05 & '06 models were 115kW. '07 to '09 125kw and '10 and upwards is 135kw. I would definitely look for a 135kw model, as they are so good to drive. Drove a '12 120d just the other day...wow!

Good luck in finding your car, you won't be disappointed!

Auto is the way to go IMO, I own 2 E90's, both 320d's, one is a 2011 Exclusive, the other 2006 Sport Pack......

Engine wise, from 05-07 is was the M47TU2D20 (120kw, 340nm), from mid 07-09 is was the N47D20 (130kw, 350nm), there were also a few Efficient Dynamic models around with the 125kw output, from 2010 onwards the LCI models were uprated to 135kw, 380nm, different turbo etc....

Like all cars, they will require some maintenance here and there.....

Msport is nice, but the ride not so much IMO

Get the car checked out thoroughly, there's lots of "shady" cars out there, good luck

Because people seem to be afraid of this kind of stuff... Its really not such a big deal provided the car you buy has been well looked after

Exactly my point - Look if the car needs say new discs and pads, then that must be done. Wont buy a car with a faulty box (not that you can SEE the problems though)

But are they trying to tell me that its expensive to service, maintain or that they break :dunno:

With my Polo I had a problem with Synchros and that cost me close to 11 to sort out and a clutch kit on that car was 6 :fencelook:

:thinking::thinking:

Simply because some people are outright stupid, if you maintain the car all will be fine

You get people that wait for things to break then complain :biglol:

I bought this 320d I have no last year feb. The only thing I've done to date. Is oil service, oil breather (R900) and because the oil breather was fkd oil was going into the boost pipes and was leaking out of a seal. So I replaced all boost seals for precautionary maintenance (about R800 - R1000) and 2.5hours labour.

This was after 20 000kms, and the oil breather they say lasts about 100 00kms. Mine was on 91 000kms.

And my previous E90 the only thing I had done was the oil breather and regular oil services, and the car was written off at 145 000kms.

Obviously this is excluding brake pads etc.

They are not so expensive to maintain, just rear tyres on the m sport are damn expensive.

Oh and I forgot to mention if you're really worried about having an expensive repair bill like a turbo blowing than get a good aftermarket warranty.
