advice needed

Hi All

Some of you may know that I have been looking for an e36 convertible for a soon-to -be BMW fanatic. It’s a long story- lets just say I made a promise and now have to make good. I found a ’94 e36 convertible (manual) with a full service history, low mileage (for its age) -approximately 150 000km, new roof (with a BMW warranty) and it is accident free. Asking Price: R55k (FYI - I've checked the book/retail value)
In my opinion, the prospective driver is too young for a “fast BMW” so the vehicle performance is irrelevant to me. However, I would like comment/ opinion from anybody who has owned/owns or has experience with these cars.

Do you reckon this is a good deal?

As usual guys please try to keep the comments/advice constructive.

Thanks in advance.

328 for a youngster is a nice ride but my personal opinion, maybe something will a little less power.

328 is plenty too much power for a first time driver. But good price non the less.

The 325i has 141kw vs the 328i 142kw, not much in it but the 328i has more torque and a is a bit quicker. Both are pretty quick cars, caution advisable for a young driver. If the mileage is genuine on the car and the car is neat than it sounds like a good deal.

From a young guys perspective id say its up to you. We don't know the person. You get young people that are very responsible drivers and you get more mature gentlemen who drive lik @s$h0L3s and endanger others lifes. Just had a man driving infront of me, sorry to say he drove a e90 320d, that tried to overtake on a corner/downhill. Long story short a car came from the front and he just missed him and almost clipped the guy infront of us. My best friends dad owns a e60 530d and his mom a c220 cdi. He refuses to go faster than 60km/h in any car. And this is a man who jumped off bloukrans.

The price is very reasonable for a convertible. If u can send some pics maybe we can help further. My car choice was between a e36 316i with 80 000km for R50 000 or the car i have now. Good luck with the purchase and shout if u need any more help.

PS: another option is to purchase the car and have this person attend a Advance Driving Course.

Cheers

I have a 95 and a 94 325 convertible. I let my step son drive the 94 with automatic. He does fine. Will not let him drive 95 manual. Has chip and other dinan upgrades and he drove mine to hard. He loved the added power.

Great cars.

I'm only 20 and i drive a '95 328i vert. The car has alot of power but if he's responsible enough to know where his driving limits are i won't be a problem.

And for that price i really wouldnt think twice.

I've also just started driving. I recently test drived my aunt's audi 2.0t with 147 kilowatt power and I can definitely say its too fast. As a first car the 325i might not be a good option bacause of the power as well as the fact that it's not a hard top. But that's just me.

Thanks for the input guys.

I collected the car yesterday. I will post pics as soon as possible. Whether or not the driver will be responsible with the vehicle is yet to be seen, but I am sure his mom will sort that out. The drive is comfortable. The performance is...reasonable. Handling and breaking takes getting used to, but that’s because it was my first time in an e36 convertible. The car is extremely low….even when compared to my Z4 and M3 convertible but it is still easy to get into. The only flaws that I've noted, so far, is a non-functional CD shuttle (it still has the original BMW professional radio with what seems like a million little buttons) and I think the exhaust has a hole in it – these two items will be fixed on Saturday.

The service is history is genuine so the mileage is believable.

Once again, thanks for the input.
