We need pics :cartel:

:withStu: I think restoring it would be a great thing to do (given it does not cost too much to do it). Its an E36 328i, one does not see those that often on the road, all I see is 318's and 320's. Since its been in the family at least you have an idea on its history unlike buying one from a stranger plus you would not need to pay installments on the car it would be all yours :) (just my 2c).

I would take the car... Honestly take it, then DIY it as you need to.. All the things mentioned here are valid, but think of this way.. You would have replaced those wear and tear items as the car was being used just not all at once, so with a parked off car it's the same, just everything all at once.. If that makes some sense. Mint condition 328i's with M kits are rare...

i would totally keep it and make a plan to get it sorted out slowly and in your own time. i've been looking around for a decent e36 the last few years..and they are getting rare now (at least where i am).

good luck, and post some pics if you can

Well it depends on your definition of decent but where are you??

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all.

I went to check the car out on Sunday and my dad couldn't find the keys while I was there...

Any how, I did take some pictures of the outside of the car.

What I could see about the inside of the car is the driver's seat will most likely need to be replaced. Any one know the probability of finding one second hand (with the motor sport stripes on it)?

Anyway, I will be going again this weekend to have a look at the inside of the car, engine, etc. and further update with info and pictures.

(I tried to upload the pictures using the "add picture to post" but had issues so I have put it on Imgur for now.)

That looks quite decent. I hope this doesn't turn into a money pit for you though.

The car looks great. I would say go for it and fix it up. At least it has been standing in a garage and has not been exposed to harsh elements. There are a lot of pros in taking over this car - ie.; knowing its history, no car installments, etc...

You already have an idea what you'll need to do from the posts above. I recommend you get quotes for the all the work required but bear in mind that there could be more stuff that springs up as repairs are being done.

Why don't you re-upholster the seat? I think you'll have difficulty finding a secondhand one.

I would take this "project" on.
It looks to be in a good condition.
Spend some cash and you will have yourself a very good example of an E36

Replace the battery. Drain cooling system and fill. Drain oil. Replace oil filter. Drain fuel tank and replace fuel filter. Clean spark plugs. Fill fluids and start. It might take a few cranks till it starts. Idle it and check temps. Drive the car about gently for a while. Replace fan belts, replace fluid in diff and gearbox. Do wipers while you at it in the beginning. After that tackle the suspension goodies.
