Advanced Driving Courses

I was just wondering, how many of you guys have done an Advanced Driving Course? I've been wanting to go for one, but somehow just never got around to doing it. I was thinking maybe we can make some sort of arrangement where we make a booking for all of us who are interested, to go on such a course together. Would you guys be interested?

I actually tried putting such an event together in 2011 January, but then BMW moved from Kyalami to Zwartkops, since then I haven't even contacted them.

What about other trainers? If BMW isn't here then why can't we use someone else? Look, I've done absolutely no homework on the topic, so I don't know the finer details. It was just an idea

BMW moved to Swartkops - brilliant! Very close to my home.

It would be so great to do the course in a group. I did some skidpan and driver training courses over 15 years ago.

It's amazing how the good 'habits' stay with you years after the course.

Would also love to do it again. :=):

Lol I agree buddy. I wouldn't really be able to afford it right now either. But I'm sure we could work out a better price if we go as a big enough group. Kinda like a block booking or something, instead of going as individuals

How about a (private BMWF) track day (with our own cars), but with a certified guru to show us how not to write off your car on the first turn.

Ya that's what I was thinking. It would be silly for me to go on a driving course with a E92 M3 for example, seeing that I don't see myself affording one any time soon. It makes a lot more sense doing it in your own car

That's a quandry for me. On one hand yes, it's great to learn on your own car, but if you fluff it badly, it can be a very painful experience...and insurance will not cover it!

I took wifey on the advanced driving course at Killarney and ended up really having some fun. I didn't agree will the application of all the skills, but it was good value. Also did some track work with an instructor in the car which was VERY useful. They are open to tailoring training for you... Wifey decided she did not want a bunch of blokes pissing themselves while they watched her botch it (which she did not do anyway) and the facility organized a closed session for us.

If there is some more track stuff I would be interested:)

By advanced driving course do you mean safe driving or track driving?

I did Defensive driving, Skid Control and Accident prevention early last year.

That's exactly what I'm referring to. Just shit that can save your life in terms of everyday driving

Exactly. That's why I always bitch to people about following distance. The course was a massive eye opener.

People drive like such idiots.

Lol you sound like my father now. He always says that it doesn't matter how good a driver you are, the next person might be an idiot lol

Hi

I've done a few,

Audi HPDC - Audi A6 - Kyalami
Nissan Precision Driving Academy - 350Z - Gerotek
BMW High Perfomance - M Coupe - Kyalami
Mercedes Dynamic Driving - E63 - Zwartkops

All of them well worth it, if you have never been it really is an eye opener.
And if you have then a refresher is always good too.

After a while though, if you know the basics you start wishing they would stop talking and just give you the car to drive already. Then maybe a personalised track session in you own car may be the better choice.
