ACTIVE HYBRID 3, 335i OR 330D ALL F30

Hi guys,

As the subject says, I would like to know which car of the above 3 you would pick and why.

The reason I am considering the active hybrid 3 is not for fuel economy as it doesn't save too much, however it is highly spec'd with extras and comes with a bit more power

At the moment 330d is in the lead in my books

The Hybrid 3 is quite an impressive car!! And not sure if anyone has noticed, but those "Aero-style" wheels that it has are actually proper turbine type wheels, not just for cosmetics like more other cars. So the left wheels are actually different to the right wheels.

Well, for me the 330d would be the first choice too, but in terms of technology, hybrids are the future and I think BMW has made a good car here in the Hybrid 3 - it is not as frugal as the 330d of course, but it also does depend on how it is driven. At least, going according to what the CAR mag long terms test has indicated so far. They also complained about a low speed jerkiness in the drivetrain, but overall still an impressive car.

Phantom has the hybrid 3, don't recall reading anything about jerkiness in his review... in terms of economy I'd look to the 330d/hybrid 3... the hybrid 3 just has the advantage of more power while being able to still be economical, obviously over and above all the new tech that the hybrid has to offer. Find Phantom's thread on his 3 and that should help you eliminate the 335/hybrid 3 decision.

The jerkiness is as result of the car having no torque converter and the electric motor is coupled directly. This means there is no in between you are either in electric or motor with no cushioning between. What happens when slowing for traffic lights the car goes into electric mode and then if you floor it it jumps to the combustion motor causing a jerk. If you accellerate slowly it is absolutely smooth as it will stay in electric mode.
What i did coming into town i would go into manual mode as this disconnects the electric motor then you do not have this issue.

Hybrid. Because it's not assembled locally. No screws and nuts were left out during production. :roflol:
