How does the bmw accident damage point system work? like lets say the car is classified as a C2 on there system wat does it mean?

u sure bout the code 3 not being covered by insurance?? cause i had 3 vehicles that were code 3 and the insurance covered them. not book value obviously, but still covered them

You won't get a CAR LOAN on a code 3 vehicle. Even if it was just stolen and recovered.

I'm not totally sure about Code 3 and Insurrance, i'm about 80% sure that its not covered by insurrance. Because the car was 'self repaired or something' Anyway, call outsurance or something & find out, If, And thats a huge IF, you get Insurance on a Code 3, you will pay alot more that you would on a CODE 3, I don't think they would ever pay you out what the car is really worth. They always get a way to screw us. Or what an I saying?

OP was talking about BMW's accident coding on their system.

In other words, when you draw the vehicle history from BMW, and there is an entry reflecting that the car was in an accident, it may say C2 etc, and that refers to the amount of damage that the car sustained.

Can someone please tell me about this code 3, stolen & recovered thing?

My BMW was stolen in September 2009 and impounded for a week before I got it back. At that time me and the mechanic both ask the police what we need to do with the car, clearance, etc. and we were told everything was fine, I can just take the car and drive it, no need for me to do anything. Last week Tuesday I needed to renew the license and then they told that my car wasn't on the road because I have not done the police clearance yet and was driving it illegally since September and now I see this code 3, stolen & recovered thing, which means I am now driving a very nice BMW with no market value anymore and that all because of one @#%$, who could not keep his hands off my property.

Is this true or not?

Sheesh, that sound bad man. Talk about law abiding citizens getting screwed over! I dont have any advice on your situation now, but I hope you get it sorted! :thumbsup:

I got it already sorted last week Tuesday, what should have been 30 minutes max, took me 4 hours. The police confirmed with the clearance, that if they found me in a roadblock, they would have arrested me and my car would have been gone for good as it was scrapped from the road and today I went through a roadblock, but luckily the car has been sorted. It's just this code 3 story now, I went to Google and saw some people advertise their cars as code 3, never been in an accident but a stolen recovery. So yes, I have a very nice car with no value.

Some insurance companies do cover Code 3. You need to check with yours. However, it is usually not at full value - sometimes only 60 to 70%.

Were you insured in the first place.

If the vehicle was declared code 3, surely they must give you the offer to buy you out, as the goal of an insurance company is to "put you in the same financial and asset position as before the incident"

stolen and recovered you are screwed though, you just need to make sure that they have already paid out before the vehicle is recovered, then you good

The only problem I have with my car is that Tracker found it back with in an hour and then it was in the impound for a week. When I got it back there were minor damage to it, which I fixed for R1100 myself because the insurance wanted to write it off, so I (stupid:bawling withdrawn my claim as I love my car to much, now seeing all this, :cursin: I should have left it to be written off, but for the first time in 13 years that I have owned cars this is the first 1 that's not giving endless troubles, but now I am screwed :bawling:

Id check with them, let them write it off (code 3) and then you buy it back from them as a code 3, tell them bout your story

I will just keep the car and when it fall apart, just sell it for scrap metal, should only be somewhere in 30 years, as it has only 182 000km on the odo.

I like the way you say it: ONLY 182000km. I know of some people who have NO faith in cars and needs to sell when they get to 80k km...

as far as my knowledge about these cars goes, if you take real good care of it, the engines and boxes were able to go up to 700 000km with no problems. I have done only 15 000km in a year, so it should still be fine for a few years, just NEED TO DO THE BRAKES URGENTLY now. Left front wheel shakes like mad now when brakes are applied at 80km\h.

Agreed, maintanance means these puppies can do serious km's. Give Jonny at spaar on 011 435 1220 a call for those brake pads, he'lll give you decent prices, and those are the easiest pads to change.
