"The model is powered by a two-litre, four-cylinder turbo, reportedly capable of 260kW/400Nm mated to a AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed and sporting all-wheel drive. As we've come to expect from AMG, the A45 has sports suspension with independently developed front and rear axles, speed-sensitive steering, high-performance brakes and three-stage ESP with "Sport handling" mode."

I saw the new A-Class in the flesh at Hamburg Airport and I'd rather have the new 1-series. My friend said "BMW must be pissed, this thing looks so much like the 1-Series..." and he's right, admittedly the A-Class has a nice interior, but the 1's interior is nothing to sniff at, and the AMG spec adds some exterior trim , but it looks rather lame compared to the concept. Don't think BMW has that much to worry about

Sheesh, that is big numbers.

Not as big as the "45" would have made me thought.

More like a A35 or A37 AMG :D

This is the interesting part though:
http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and-reviews/car-news/mercedes_benz_a45_amg_beats_audi_rs3_bmw_1_m

AMG’s screaming A45 hatch has run the BMW 1-Series M and Audi RS3 rivals into the ground at Germany’s famed 'Ring track, says its head of development. Fritz Eichler says AMG recently completed back-to-back performance testing at Nurburgring and Hockenheim tracks with the A45 "easily" beating the Audi RS3.

But he says though the new Mercedes-AMG hatch was ahead of the BMW 1-M "there wasn’t much in it". “The A45 is very predictable, very fast and the handling is excellent with the variable front and rear drive," he says.
Eichler, who was one of the drivers during testing, says the BMW - both 135i and 1M were tested - was the hardest competitor. “But we still beat them,’’ he says. "1M was a real competitor. We cracked it but it was hard."

A bit of a sensationalist opening line, but the A45 AMG sounds like it got it right (unlike the journalist who starts a sentence with "But").

That's a lot of big numbers from a little 4 pot turbo - have to give Merc some credit for that

But he says though the new Mercedes-AMG hatch was ahead of the BMW 1-M "there wasn’t much in it".

I bet there would be a lot in it if BMW were working on a new 1M and using the Merc as a benchmark.

Impressive numbers from a 2l. Wonder what the drive will be like.

This A-Class is gonna cannibalise the VW GTI & 1 series sales... I've always asked myself if there'd be any other next level hatch... Mercedes has just done it for me.

I'd take this over the bullnose 1 series any day... I'm really not a fan of the new 1 series or 3. :thumbdo:

for those of you wondering about the tuning capabilities of the A45AMG

"Standard model delivers 360 HP

The engineers from mcchip-dkr have launched an upgrade kit for the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG.
The main focus of this aftermarket package was on the 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged engine which in its standard configuration delivers 360 HP (265 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. mcchip-dkr's stage 1 kit bumps output via software optimization to 400 HP (294 kW) and 535 Nm (394 lb-ft). Opt for the stage 2 kit which also includes sports catalysts and the power is increased to 420 HP (309 kW) while torque remains the same at 535 Nm (394 lb-ft).
The cream of the crop is the stage 3 kit lifting output of the four banger to an impressive 450 HP (331 kW) and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft). This additional power is available courtesy some turbocharger upgrades, aside from the already mentioned software tweaks and sports catalysts.
Other changes include KW coilovers and 19-inch mbDesign KV1 wheels wrapped around in 235/35 ZR19 Dunlop Sport Maxx Race tires.
