A question on donuts

Try snap shifting into 2nd as soon as she starts coming around before she understeers.....also wait until it rains......but as mentioned above........

Rather go throw her around a nice twisty mountain pass and enjoy her for what she was built for.....

Too bad you not close to Pretoria then... cause let me tell you...

In 1994 when doing my spietkop training, I had to het a truck licence as well, and did training in a 16 ton double axle Nissan Tipper truck, and I even got that thing to do donuts, so your car would be easy compared to that

Yes it's your car go for it, I powerslided my stock E90 320i so yes it is possible to get these barges sideways..

On a related note..Perfect example of why you do not buy used BMWs or any turbo car for the matter. :hammerhead:

You can do doughnuts in any piece of crap. Are you sure you put the traction control off completely? It's 2 stage with the button on the dash.

Buy an e30....

exactly

the operative word here is "BUY", it always instills a sense of responsibility, and an appreciation for having worked and ultimately care for ones belongings

My question is whats wrong with your car?

A 3.0lt six cylinder engine doesnt struggle...well it shouldnt.

I am in agreement with some, and others not.
We buy cars to commute, enjoy or use as we wish. Now my recommendation - with absolutely no clue on how old you are. Start saving, and buy yourself a toy to play with - if you dont have a large family fund backing you, dont destroy your daily as its firstly a BMW, a new generation one at that - and Parts aint gonna be cheap, specially if you not feeling the control of the slide, because that attracts pavements and so on.

If you neglect some sound advice, this is what I would do:
1)Check tyre pressures.(Soft = more grip, Hard = less grip)
2)Determine if the car has its stock suspension(if its too low or soft, its not going to lose traction too easy - figured this out on my e34, its to low so its not tail happy, until you force it).
3)tyre condition: this shouldnt be a problem for a 3lt...nope, it should shred new rubber as good as old rubber.(consider taking semi's off if its gripping like $hite:roflol:).
4)if you having difficulty initiating a Donut, let it roll some, dont start from a stationary position, as your diff ratio may be a bit lot, and better suited for high end, and not acceleration(Im thinking this may be a factor).

PS - the only car that can do a proper unprovoked donut proper...is a M car - very respectable.

Some feedback or vids would give us more insight.

Let the man screw up his car if he wants to, he will feel it when it comes time to sell...

But on another note that car should easily let the back out, I never drove one before but it aint some asthmatic 520 E12 after all

Also leave the E30's alone please I beg of you, there is enough of them being mutilated for the 'sport' of spinning

Hahaha jeez guys, give the man a break! His car, his money, his choices.

But I'd agree with the guy that recommended practising on the grass somewhere.
Your car should be able to do a doughnut perfectly, even with no lsd. Maybe feather the throttle a bit after you get the slide going.

Have you tried to the left and then the right? With an open diff one wheel is the "driven" wheel. This will in turn allow more torque to be transmitted when the inside wheel looses traction... In other words it's always easier to power slide an open diff car in one direction when comparing left and right.

Also try this... Instead of revving and dropping the clutch from standstill drive in a tight circle in first gear, then dip the clutch, rev it hard and dump the clutch. That will definitely make it go around. Try it left and right...

This^^Simply just flooring it should get her sliding tho....If my 325i can break traction like this then it should be child's play with a 130i
