A bit of a eye opener in regard to mods

As a lot of you guys saw I battle to get a decent time on Sunday. Started of with a 13.9, then a 13.8 and finally a 13.6 with 8km/h missing from my exit. My best to date is a 13 flat on a night with far less traction than yesterday. In the morning on the way to the track the car was seriously motoring and I was convinced I would be making a record run.
I am running a shorter final drive 3.85 and I thought my bad times are due to the 2.6 second 60ft recordings but things still didn't gel. If I ran a 2.0 which is my average it means I would only be .6 seconds or so faster.
On my third run I heard the turbos whining badly which I have only heard once before on the dyno when we experimented to see the limitations of the turbos and maximum airflow. So I took the car on the road with the logger. My finding where that the waistegates where staying closed virtually right through the rev range and I would still not achieve target boost hence a leak. The intake temperatures where shooting to 90 degrees when they should be around 40 degrees with 20 degree ambient at the time due to the turbos spinning there best to try make the required boost.
I came straight home off boost and started looking for the leak. I didn't find anything, all the pipes where as tight as Celine Dion at 24 years of age. I was baffled. Then last night I came across a post on another forum with someone that had problems with Forge Dumpvalves and found a pdf document with the service requirements etc. I went straight back to the car and the first DV I took out was stuck open due to muck from oil formation. Moral of the story is we always take things for granted, fit parts etc but sometimes don't worry to oil and service them regularly. It could of cost me my turbos and maybe even the motor if things have let go I was lucky with just a bit of damage to my pride.

george what colour spring are u using in the valves?
i also had issues with mine and lost power on the dyno after i had them for about 3 months or so.
i am still not convinced that the aftermarket valves are the way to go.
sure the stock ones can give up the ghost , but the headache of making sure the forge valves work properly makes it a problem.
like u said u could have lost the turbo's
the biggest difference i belt with them on , was the car came on boost alot more agressively .

I was using the stock springs which are weaker. I have now put in the yellows and do not think I will have a problem again. They often have problems in sealing from what I have read but I plan to change that intake pipe to a metal one eventually.

Yip consider STETT...it comes with a different variation DV's also made by FORGE...swop in the race (yellow or red) springs and the boost comes on and stays on fast as Anile explained.

I am looking at something similar to Stett but will just make it locally for a quarter of the price.

George i use copper compound every now and then on the dumpvalve's and that works awesome! we had the same problem on our charged BMW with an excel valve.. some copper compound and you off to go!
