Hi All

New to the forum, and was hoping for some advice.
Im considering purchasing a E36 318i Auto, FSH most of its life from BMW, 95 000km, single owner and excellent condition.

Can any of you perhaps share your ownership experience and common things to look out for?

Thanks

Muhammad

Welcome Muhammad from carforums

If that mileage is as geniune as you say it is, then its a good buy. e36 318i are very realiable cars. Things to look out for would be the usual suspension and other stuff like bushes, ball joints LCA's, expansion tank, etc.... but at that mileage those things would only need attention round about the 200K mark.

Hope this helps....

Here's a pic to convince you of E36 reliability:

What is the purchase price? Allow for some maintenance eg. change the waterpump and thermostat as soon as you get the car. I would change the gearbox oil as well just to be on the safe side. I think your car will take the ATF fluid and not the more expensive stuff that the later models (read E39, E46, etc) take. I have a 1996 318iS manual with 304 000km and just today discovered that the radiator side tank is leaking and have just ordered a new radiator and expansion tank from Silverton for just over R1000, vat included, so allow for the radiator to go soon.
Are the seats in good condition? Is the aircon still working? These cars are very good and a pleasure to drive. The auto is a bit slower and less economical but good engine and gearbox.

Mileage is genuine, belongs to a family friend. Car is in our possession now. Paid 40k (which doesn't seem bad considering what I've seen on gumtree/autotrader)
94/95 model. Samoa Blue, Black leather interior
Everything works, including the sunroof. Aircon needs a regass but it does work.
Will run the car for a bit and see what gremlins are lurking about.
