A crank broke and didn't wreck a single component it is attached to. Buy it and send it to Germany they would love to see it.

If the rest of the car is immaculate then i still think its a decent buy, spend another 50 to 100k to buy a used engine, give it a refresh with new bearings and seals and throw it in.

If it was really 30k to fix, the mechie would fix and sell for triple digit profits. He won't fix and sell because it won't be 30k.
Also, the title of this thread, no matter what, could never be true "750i for a steal". The only one getting robbed when a 750i is purchased is the purchaser, whether that's new, 5yrs old or 15yrs old.

True story

Prior or subsequent generations I'd perhaps agree. Not on this one I'm afraid. If it has been sitting at the mech for 2 years it is not going to be in immaculate condition IMHO. I also don't know if everyone realises just how shit the N63 of that era was or how astronomically expensive it is to do anything on it (properly anyway).

You did read how much Jusin paid above to do seals and bearings right? That's the exact refresh you'd need to do on the new motor :ROFLMAO:... he actually got off lightly. That's an M6 though and will always have value. A 750 will not. Then you add valve stem seals, injectors and timing chains to the mix and you can just go buy a running car if you really want to.

So 100K for a motor + 180K for the refresh + 50K for the car itself...

R330K to get this thing to be barely a project (still in need of detailing/fumigation and with unknown suspension and electrical issues), for a highly undesirable car. You could probably offer one of the guys on Autotrader R350K and they'd take it for one of the 'nice looking ones'.

This is a parts car and most likely has already been used as one to a degree by the mech... whether he admits to it or blames it on his staff.

I see your point, but if he is willing to diy the repair bill will be under 100k and yes that will include some tools needed for timing , injectors etc... Or he could just roll the dice and plonk a the used motor in as is..... Or he could strip the old motor and find that yes only the crank is damaged or or or yes plenty ors and what ifs here , but the biggest question is why didnt the mechanic at least strip the motor to check the actual damage .

If i actually liked the look of the seven series i would roll the dice and buy it.

if anyone liked the look of this car it would have been repaired already as a labour of love. Make no mistake, I am also guilty of wanting to save things... but there is a difference between saving from the pole vs the crack house.

That said, I will be here with popcorn should anyone pick up the project. Lessons for everyone else to learn. Then again, it would probably become another of the host of ghost threads from similarly ambitious projects.

SA might not be ready for this yet, but instead of throwing/wasting another engine, these "shells" become good candidates for EV conversions. Granted the the F01 has lots of electric stuff that you would need to ditch, but nice candidate to play with a EV conversion... Obviously makes zero financial sense - more of a nice project to throw money at, instead of just another engine
Agreed. I want to get the kit to replace the motor on a bike I have with the engine busted. Everything is just under 100k with the battery. Some car conversions would be nice to see

Yeah, this has been dropped and forgotten about already. My friend took my advise and decided to move along swiftly.

In other news, my sound build in my golf is taking shape. Can't to see and hear the outcome.
