635 Wont Start PLEASE HELP

Hi Guys

So last week I posted my first post about collecting my 635csi. It drove amazing for the first 24 hours...

The head light had fused so I took it to the BMW at my house. a guy opened the bonnet to check what globe the headlight uses. To get the the head light on the right hand side you need to lift the windscreen washer water tank from the car. He laid this down and water leaked out the top and onto the coil pack below.

The car wont start now.

Any ideas. do you guys no a good place to send the car in JHB? BMW is refusing to take responsibly for the electrical problem.

PLEASE HELP

Which BMW did you take it to?

And did you drive the car into the dealership or was it towed?

Have you tried getting hold of Gizmo here on the forum?

It drove perfectly into BMW on William Nicol, and was towed out 8 hours later because they couldnt plug it in for the computer to tell them where the problem is..:argh:

Its being towed to an auto electrician this afternoon...lets hold thumbs!

Also had a mechanic looking panicky when he realised that there is no diagnostics on the 635...
:biglol:
Sounds pretty straightforward fix... it is not a repair item... get a new coil and put it in...

Surely if water got into the coil someone would have dried it out and made sure there is voltage when the ignition is on ?

Try another coil and coil lead , check for voltage first .

Sorry to hear and can't believe that they messed it up and won't take accountability. Just pathetic so say the least. :nonono:

Something I've come to notice is that the dealerships don't really know anything about the older BMW's. I won't trust the agents to know what they are doing with either my E34 or E30 and certainly not an even older 635 if I had one.

JSN motors about as competent as a pimple on the prom night queen's forehead.
:thumbdo:

Is this an early model with the electronic ignition transistor box on the side of the fender or is it the later model?

Maybe they shorted the electronic ignition module.

Give me a call I may have one for you if that is the case.

So its not the coil....

When we were changing the light bulb, along with the water issue, the car had its head lights, radio and interior lights on. So at first I thought the battrie had died.

I tried to roll start the car but didnt get it right. One of the technicians came to jump start the car and reversed the cable colours i.e red to black and not red to red. The auto electrical guy I sent it to last night said that by doing that and reversing the polarities on the battrie we have probably blown the engines computer....

They are going to look over it today and give me feed back later.

How in the world could they have made such a stupid mistake?

BMW techs don't know what a battery looks like anymore, they use the remote battery terminals in the engine bay now...

When I hooked my car up to the trickle charger a couple of weeks ago I had to get a torch to find the polarity marks on the battery, the cables are not clearly red and black.

There is reverse polarity protection built into the ECU, cluster and most of the electronics if the fusees were of the right ratings then that's all that blew.

However your alternator diodes will be toast, sorry

"How in the world could they have made such a stupid mistake?" dammned if I know the one has a - next to it and the other a big +, you have to be particulalrly stoned to make that mistake.

Do you have any idea of what that might cost? The mechanic hasn't called yet with a diagnosis yet.
