There is reverse polarity protection built into the ECU, cluster and most of the electronics if the fusees were of the right ratings then that's all that blew.

However your alternator diodes will be toast, sorry

"How in the world could they have made such a stupid mistake?" dammned if I know the one has a - next to it and the other a big +, you have to be particulalrly stoned to make that mistake.

Do you have any idea of what that might cost? The mechanic hasn't called yet with a diagnosis yet.

If it is just the alternator diode pack and regulator, around R1500. Can proobably pick up a used alternator much cheaper.

PM me if the guys start claiming all the ecu's etc are stuffed, it may not be the case.

So Im still waiting for the diagnosis. Here is the only thing I have to feed my love for it.
Parked in Parkhurst for lunch the day I got it...the last day it drove

:inlove:

I suggest you join the bigcoupe.com forum for all manner of e24 wisdom and advice. Just be careful... its run by grumpy old men so do a search before asking questions... they have about 10 years of people asking the same questions. I have found that nothing that goes wrong is ever unique... it has happened to someone else, somewhere else before.

Ok FINALY some clarity. There is a module located on the right hand side bellow the water tank. The auto electrical guy is almost 100% certain that is what blew. They say it is relatively easy to fix and I should get it back later today or tomorrow.

Holding thumbs.

My post #10 indicated that.
The unit cannot really be repaired but replaced

Ja that is the one, The unit has a recon' note on it already... Apparently the mechanic has seen this issue before and "knows exactly what has gone wrong" Im still waiting.

If it cant be repaired what is the best route to take in getting a new one. Does anyone know of someone with spares?
