540i Key Coding

Hi All.

I'm in need of some advice and hopefully you cleaver guys have some recommendations for me.

My 540 was lock via IR remote (as in the pic below) when I left it at a friends house for a couple of hours.

When I returned, the remote did not want to unlock the doors or disarm the alarm and I had to unlock the doors with the key and the alarm was screaming.

So to stop the screaming I removed the blue fuse from the DWA under the rear seat.

Seams the IR remote batteries finally died.

I've replaced the batteries but as soon is I replace the fuse ...... the alarm screams and the IR remote does nothing

Do any of you know how the reprogram the IR remote or how to reset the whole system?

Hi Johan, See below post from Bimmerfest

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=418493

"Put the key in the ignition and turn into contact position 1 then within 5 seconds remove the key and press the top button keep it pushed in and then push the other button 3 times very short after each other. Then let go off button 1 and the led should slowly go on and off. Aim the key while blinking on the mirror as close as you can and push a button. When complete the car will lock and unlock itself and then it should be working.

It may not work the first time. It can take several times before it works. "

Thanks.

Will I be able to reset the key while the alarm is screaming or does it need to be in "disarmed" mode

Sorry man can't help there as I pulled the above info off google.

I'm trying to check now:coolShake:

Update:
Not really finding much but I don't see any options for you anyway so I say it's worth a shot.

I did try to reset the key while the alarm was screaming but its not helping.

According to other forums I need to take it to a dealership to have it re-coded, problem is, the local (Vereeniging) dealership can't help as they recon the model is to old.
