Ok, so explain it to me, especially this part:

It is believable that it could keep up with a stock E46 M3...
And please feel to use any facts, figures and graphs at your disposal....even anecdotal references....

Zabbos M3 ran very close with a certain blue 540i 6. Owner is on the forum and can choose to comment if he so wishes.

Couple of youtjoob vids show fairly close runs....

So... plausible? Yes. I wouldn't tell you to kill yourself though

sent from my GT86

Oh please.
A 540i can barely outrun an e46 330i and now you want to suggest it can hold candle to an e46 M3?:roflol:

The M3 you must have seen was broken

edit - and it is Youtube:biglol:

Zabbos M3 dyno'd 224kw, that specific 540i 6 did 213kw. All info as per the 540i 6 owner. If I'm wrong I welcome the correction from the relevant parties

Since we are speaking about this specific E39 540 that I owned my two cents worth .

The car was chipped
Had a reworked head
A different branch than standard
A super free flow

And kept up with my pristine ( not broken ) E39 M5 in all gears head to head with the M5 just edging it out later on

So Let's not generalize this 540 would butt fuck a 330 everyday of the week and many a E46 M3 saw its gat

So is this the one that you bought?

hi, yes, the car is in my possession now, picked it up today........:inlove:

if it can beat an m3... or if it cant, dont really care, such an awesome ride (understatement of the year)

having driven an e36 m3 but not an e46 i can assure you it seems faster then the e36....

anyway, thread to follow tomorrow, unfortunately the m5 wheels will not be on the car, but some standard ones will replace them, part of the deal though, and i think i got a good deal

These are awesome cars, I was actually really keen to look at it, but had to be sensible too and don't have space. Enjoy!!

As the web has proven, there is nothing more sensitive in the BMW circle than the relation between the top-line normal BMW and the M-Cars. 330i owners always want to justify why they didn't get an M3, and 540i owners want to claim that their car is 90% of the performance/better overall as a daily than an M5. And one must certainly never say anything to assault the integrity of the mighty E46 M3.

An E46 M3 in good nick is a very fast car. A healthy E39 540i/6 will certainly outrun an E46 330i - heck, I can do that, and I have an E34, so 400 extra cc will make a difference. It won't be in the same neighbourhood as a healthy E46 M3, but it will be close, if we're using the same yardstick that determines that a 540i is "barely" faster than an 330i. Besides, with all street racing being subjective, such claims are meaningless. It's stupid to brand your car an "M3 Eater" - makes me immediately think you're a plonker.

540i's came with 210kw from the factory so sure a 213kw dyno result sounds legit :biglol:

4.4 M62 540i's regularly dyno numbers that suggest that BMW was being conservative with its official power figure, so it's quite plausible.

Can't see why you all fighting about this?? :dunno:
As long as my 325i can outrun my Mother in laws broom... :mmm:

cois new sig pic i like more than old,

e46 m3 is not that fantastic tbh,i have one times honda that will play with software e92 m's but that s a different ballpark game,

and i have seen said 540i,it is not so stock, and yes both heads have been done, dont see why u had to make a issue about that ,

BUT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL TOPIC

congrats to the new owner, its a good example of what a old bmw can look like and still drive like if its properly maintained,as for stock rims .........change them to a good 300mm in the rear:inlove: and maybe 255 in the front, when u can find tyres and rims that match those specs haha, and drop that beesh on the floor:thumbs:

thanks for all the kind words and congratulations:praise:

loving the car every second, and every second i not driving it, im thinking about driving it, or washing it or something:inlove:

i dont know how this turned into a who's car is faster then who's car thread but boys will be boys lol

sooooo busy atm, so cant take any pics or load onto the showroom, but i promise tomorow or latest monday:fencelook:

the car had 18" style 65's, 265r - 245f, the car had some decent grip then, its now running on 16" style 33's, 225's all round, not all as bad as it sounds, the car is a handfull and fun, but the underlined word being fun, and the ride and handeling characteristics seem alot smoother and the car easier to drive which surprised me:bravo:

but dont worry, some proper wheels and tekkies will find their way onto the car in due time

also rolling on the 16's,they do handle surprisingly well, but at the cheapest decent tyre costing just short of 2k per tyre,i think the 16s seriously need to go

Yea,

But I can outrun a E46 M3, or a 540/6, whichever you prefer, while towing the said car with my 530d, in a apples to apples comparison.

I dont know why you guys bother
