I would just work out what the value of the drive lines and motor is worth offer him that and be done with it... anything you sell from stripping the car is a bonus
what are the engine and drive lines worth if you had to get them separate?

I'm under the impression that there is a great deal more needed to complete the transfer succssfully....but I stand under correction.
looking at that add the e34 price might not be so bad... but I have no idea what the components go for maybe:
engine R 12k
Gearbox R 4k
prop R 2k
drive shafts R 2k
diff R 2k
steering? R 2k
Brakes? 4k
other bits?
the list above is already getting close to 30k and im sure there are bits missing maybe offer 20k and see if you can get it for 25k

Everything is being transferred barring the Throwing Stars...will refurb and sell, set of 5 rims but they are all 8j unfortunately.
Whats happening to the m5 kit on the touring? :=): i preffer the m5 front bumper over the mtech one.
