Great post OP....taking us back to our younger days and the love for the cars of that era!
The 2.0 16v cars really did make an impact in this era....

I owned a Opel Monza CD 16v...power and acceleration of this sedan really impressed me! I later upgraded to the Astra 200iE...also the 16v 110kw variant...quick 4 cylinder cars!

Also had an e30 323i coupe and e36 325i.....never raced them but I honestly think the Opel CD16v would have cleaned up both those 6 cylinder Beemers of mine!

Remember the mods of that error??
KNN filter, branch and a free flow...then you thought that nothing would catch you

I had a Golf GTi 16V 2.0 that I bought new back in the day. It was a good car. Handling wasn't quite as sharp as the GTi 1.8 8V that I had before it, but the brakes were better. Pulling power was quite phenomenal for the time. I took off the 16V badges and put on a set of 8V wheels. It made quite a good sleeper, hehehe.

I haven't seen one of the big bumper Golf 2s on the street in quite some time. Makes me wonder how many are left.

Gave that GTI a nickname of “20/20”
It’s still my favourite GTI of that time.

If theft was not such a big problem, I’d get the 325iS and the GTI from that list
