a standard e92 335 with a 7-speed box is R697k, so why all the crying?

It might a well be cos only the rich and famous will be able to afford it. Then you'll need to pay for the paint ,steering wheel ,carpets wheels and the engine will be an optional extra.

this isn't reserved to BMW only. All prices have risen, and are always going to. Take for eg the price of a corolla compared to a decade ago.

Well the only option you might need is the M Sport kit. Everything else you might need is standard.
You surely haven't been looking at other manufacturers, if you think BMW is the only expensive car.

For the TV advert they used the Concept 4-Series, with the full LED lights, special mirrors and concept bumper
