For people who need the practicality but don't want a hearse looking station wagon? Not for me but I guess there was a business case or they wouldn't have built it

This kinda reminds me of that movie inception but instead of a dream within a dream, its a 3 series within a 4 series :fencelook:

It's about not missing out on market share and keeping the company at the forefront of premium car sales. This in turn keeps the company profitable and allows them to improve on the more traditional models too. If Audi would have sold 15000 A5 Sportbacks and BMW steals only 5000 sales off them from potential buyers, it's 5000 BMW cars would never have sold if they didn't offer a similar model in that segment. This looks less strange than the hunchback A5 Sportback anyway. Hatch seems to open pretty wide for easy access

You will get the Jonses buying this just because it's new. Looks like a three inside and out. I can't see the logic in such a car. Can anyone say M4 grand coupe ... Lol ... My question is do customers really want something like a 4 series gc. And whats so different to a 3 series. To be honest I never really understood the 5series Gt let alone 3 series Gt ... Just buy an X series Bmw people

I say ditch one of these 3series variants and give the fans a Z4 M-Coupe, instead of some Toyota/BMW concoction.

I understand that the reason for all these variants is it relatively cheap with modern production techniques and panel sharing/replication to create different models on the same platform. So for BMW they don't have to outlay a lot of R&D to create these variants. Makes business sense but definitely a lot of fans have been scoffing at the idea. My personal opinion is, long term, a lot of fans will be steered into other BMW models i.e. 1series or 5series or other brands, due to the similarity of design of the 5 types of "3" series you have. In all honesty, my opinion, commonness on the road causes a car to loose its appeal, no matter how good/fast it is. Lets count:-

3series sedan
4series coupe
4series convertible
3series GT
4series Gran Coupe

5 designs all of a similar nature. I'd choose none of them, as 5 years down the line, these will be common as Toyota Corolla on our roads.
BMW are milking a cash cow here to death...........
