i get the 6 series GC because a 4 door version is not the 5 series.

Well I actually get it. And was wondering when BMW would do it.

Look at Audi they made the A5 as the coupe version of the A4 and then made a 4 door of said A5.

Personally I would like to see them can this GT nonsense and bring back the Touring. Just my 2c

^^ couldn't have said it better myself. Differentiation in styling between the 3 and 4 would have made this make sense, but they look almost identical...so this is pointless.

I don't get it... It is just a slightly different looking 3-series sedan with a coupe badge slapped on it.

A5 Sportback VS A4 debate is valid, since the exterior styling is different enough. The 6-GC is a more modern and sporty alternative to the 7-series.

But now this 4-GC?

In fairness the 4GC does have a more sloping rear than the 3, a-la the A5 Sportback, but less hunchback looking. And it has a hatch, unlike the 3-Series sedan.

It's about not missing out on market share and keeping the company at the forefront of premium car sales. This in turn keeps the company profitable and allows them to improve on the more traditional models too. If Audi would have sold 15000 A5 Sportbacks and BMW steals only 5000 sales off them from potential buyers, it's 5000 BMW cars would never have sold if they didn't offer a similar model in that segment. This looks less strange than the hunchback A5 Sportback anyway. Hatch seems to open pretty wide for easy access
