Hi All
today as i was driving to see a client, the orange engine light came on and the car lost power. it felt as though the car had no turbors and if i pressed down, it would take time for the speed to climb and would make a bit of noise. not sure what it is. after the meeting, when i started the car, car was fine, drove to BMW to check out they could not see anything as the warning light had disappeared. they have now booked the car to run some tests. car out of motorplan. any ideas

car not tuned, stock standard. ok that's promising. really not up to a hefty repair bill

What milage have you got on the car? Its possible that the vanos solinoid vavle might be full of oil. Mind done the same, i switched it off, restarted and all was ok till a few months later. Then it became a constant problem, bmw ran diagnostics and found out it was the vanos solinoid. Motorplan gave me a new one.

If the engine light came on there should be a code stored in the DME, once BMW connect they can quickly see what the problem is. Alternatively if you out of MP get hold of Sherwin or someone on the forum with a diagnostics cable to have a quick check for you, probably be a lot cheaper than going to BM. Once car has a check light it will always go into safe mode and lose power to protect the motor. Once you start again it will go away unless the problem remains present. Without any info in terms of symptoms one can only speculate whats wrong. Could be anything from bad fuel to leaking boost line etc.

Maybe some info might help:

- Did you experience any hestitation?
- What was the engine temp at the time?
- Did you perhaps fill up with 93 octane?
- Have you checked all your vacuum rubbber piping for cracks, common problem on X35's?
- Check that your diverter valves on the intake CP are seated correctly and haven't perhaps come loose, this will cause a boost leak

I had this issue twice with my car.

First Time
BMW replaced the High Pressure Fuel Pump

6 months later

Second Time
BMW replaced the Fuel Rail Sensor

Could be a number of things that puts the car into LIMP MODE

Best to plug into diagnostic cable cause there's a thousand and 1 things it could be :fencelook:

I had same issue. Seems to be a common problem. MPLAN also sorted it out for me.
