I say find a good BMW Mechanic and get yourself a Motor Extended Warranty. Similiar to what Holland has to offer.

like mentioned before, once over 80k kms, you don't have the option to extend by time only.
Motorplan is activated from date of registration.

True story. I once wanted to buy an M3. First used by BMW SA during 2008. Car was first registered in 2009 and M/P was activated in 2009 as well. Only problem was that the car already had 30 odd thousand km's on the clock in 2009. Needless to say that I did not buy the car.

If its anything to go by my engine packed up at 106000km.

R91000 for a new engine 6000km's out of motorplan....you do the maths.

Mine was over 80K so that explains why they didn't give me the option of time only.

did they not compensate out of goodwill? I've heard BMW do that previously with a vehicle a few thousand kms out of plan

Hi all,

Just a brief feedback post...
Called BMW and went to (JSN in Bryanston).
Quote was given @R27811.20 for 12 months and 10 000km.
So that's a bunch...

Whereto next? Do I even attempt insurance cover, or do I just save while I drive and hope nothing serious dies...obviously maintaining as required...

Thanks

PS: Does anyone have the BMW service schedule for the 335i after 100 000kms? Would be nice to see / plan for major services.

ask them if they will give you a quote for 105000km or 12 months. Should be closer to R15k.

They did this for a friend of mine, so see no reason why they cant do it for you. Ask to speak to a MP consultant and not a call centre person

If they didnt do this for my friend, he wouldnt have extended his MP. R27k is silly money

It's a gamble! Lots of money if nothing goes wrong, but if something big does go wrong then it pays! Difficult one!

Best is to consider what could go wrong on your car and evaluate the risk versus cost - in many cases you could just as well invest that money so that it's there if you do need it for something slightly more minor, or part of the cost of something more major which is risk...

When I bought my 330i three years ago it had 46k km on the clock and motorplan was extended for a year, I then extended it for another year which was then the max 7 years and I think it cost me a little over R4k - would have to check it, but it was really not that much in the end.
