335i LCI auto boxes?

are there different types in the sedan (e90 LCI)? is it a regular slushbox?

Yes, dct available in pre lci... Probably only late 2009 into 2010 coupes, just before the facelift. Still n54.

Imo... Dct > auto > manual (if that's why you're asking)

Yep, before DCT I remember seeing a vid showing how good the autobox is compared to even a well driven manual gearbox. There is roughly a 2% loss in power from the automatic gearbox compared to the manual gearbox, but because the turbo is able to stay on boost during changes it makes for a faster overall acceleration. DCT is then just that much quicker. Personally I would go for manual though, but if I was going to deviate from manual, then DCT!

1. I think your question in your header also relates to the 335 (x35). The autobox runs on different software compared to the non turbo e90/e92.

2. Dont go manual on the 335/135. The autoboxes are quicker and respond better on current tuning options available.

3. Dont think of the old autobox prior to the launch of the x35. The x35 autobox or the DCT derivative is a whole new performance experience.

4. Todays, performance tunes such as the JB4 will optimize that autobox even more.

5. If you go auto, also take the steering wheel shift pedals, you can manually shift to 6500 or 6900 in 3/4/5/6 gear and you can do it quicker than the manual stick shift....its also more fun.

6. I understand this is not an auto vs manual discussion. In the 335 the autobox with shift pedals is pure fun. :joy:

Just another note, I am very hungry for a X35! It's just the ongoing HPFP issues that still concern me! Once a more permanent solution and replacement comes out then I will really be keen!!

I agree.. I am not a fan of the Pre Lci sedan Kidney grills or rear lights..
The Lci on the other hand is awesome looking

I must say, the LCI is just that little bit more sleek looking to the pre-LCI like mine. The only thing that I still battle to get use to on the LCI is the extra crease lines from the kidneys running up the centre of the bonnet which the pre-LCI doesn't have of course...

I agree with Philip...prices should be better by around May next year then one should shop for an x35. I can see a few tuners planning this as well.

The lci 335i has longer gear ratios as opposed to the pre facelift.
It is a much better box and sw combination

Well the pre-LCI you can get with the smoked taillights, and really like the way they look..... pre-LCI e90 M3 in TiAg with the smoked taillights....:drool:


While on the subject of these gearboxes, how are there in terms or reliability - are they line earlier BMW auto boxes that you pretty much know you can drive them up to about 150k km and then you are pretty much on borrowed time.

Most problems have been reported with those running very high power 350Kw & 680Nm upwards. And mainly with the manual boxes as well as clutchplate failures.

The auto trannies are holding up well. I would think that for those keeping their cars stock these trannies should last well over 200Ks...but time will tell...still early days. :fencelook:
