Hi guys

i am in the market for a 335i Coupe, my budget is only around R350k or so, i have seen a few in my price range 2008 and 2009 models e92, mileage between 60k and 100k, obviouly the lower the better.

what should i be on the look out for when purchasing these cars?
Maintenance cost?
Part failure etc,

i dont wanna buy a car thats gonna be parked due to parts being over priced or always being broken down.

all help will be highly appreciated.

I have a 2008 135i, which should be pretty similar. High pressure fuel pumps were a problem. I've heard of it being replaced multiple times on the same car.
I have had mine for a year and 10 000km, no issues. She is on 62 200km now. There was some work on her before I got her. I remember something something solenoid, but nothing to deter me from buying.

Tyres are of course expensive and wear quite quickly. (R12k-ish a set for mine)

I just got a quote for a maintenance plan extension on mine.
+ 1 year only (still up to 100 000km) - R10k
+ 1 year and 5000km (up to 105k km) - R17 500
+ 1 year and 15 000km (115k km) - R37k.

That tells me that you really really want to end at less than 100 000km or less when the MP expires, unless you get a good deal of course.

With the new shape coming out soon its a buyers market for thos cars so the price you want to spend you should get a car on the lower mileage range.
Things that go pear shaped without warning are the following:
Electric Water Pump
High Pressure Fuel pump although the car should have the recalled unit
Besides those too the rest I would not be too concerned.
If you planning to keep the run flats best you get some quotes to know what you in for in regard to tires. I recently paid R10500 for two front Michelin which I changed because the original where on the car for five years.

I bought a 2008 335i Coupe 2 months ago with 65 000km. Paid 330k.They extended the motorplan for me for around 10k to end July 2014 free of charge. My car is fully specced, mpack, 19 inch M-sport rims, navigation, voice control, extended light package bla bla bla

Beautiful car and goes like stink...

I have the 19 inch rims. I can tell you that the 19's are a problem. With the low profile on the 19's the smallest pothole will crack your rim! On suburban roads you have to be extra careful...

I actually bought mine with a cracked rim. They replaced it with a new one after I discovered this a week after I bought the car...

Ask them to x-ray all the rims prior to buying the car. Then you know you not getting a damaged rim.

18;s are actually a better compromise but dont look as neat. With the 19'S you need to constantly check tyre pressure.

Im buying a set of csl or 1m reps to slap on for our JHB roads.

Best of luck!
