Hi Guys

Might be looking at E90/92 335i

Owners out there, whats your real world fuel consumption? Assuming you have a heavy foot and will enjoy the car for what it is!

I unfortunately sit a lot in peak hour traffic where for 15km it is 10 - 15 km per hour. The 335i does not like this and I have had instances where consumption is 17.8l/100km per tank. That's about 290km off a full tank  Mostly it is around 14 - 15l/100km in town driving.

On a round trip from Cape Town to Sun City I averaged about 9l/100km over the trip. The best tank on the trip was 8l/100km. The trip was 80% cruise control set to indicated speed of 128km/hr on GPS. Overtaking was foot down and 170 - 180km/hr on speedometer (loved it ).

The bottom line is, screw the fuel consumption. Get the car to enjoy it. I realized that if I constantly gauge the consumption I will never enjoy the car. I now drive it the way I want to and if it needs petrol it gets it.

Hey guys

In traffic it averages about 15L/100km , normal driving about 9 to 10L/100km .
If you buying a 335, consumption is the last thing to worry about because if you consumption conches then you will never enjoy the car .:=):

Another option is a 330D more torque and its well bellow 10L/100km

Hey Guys,

I need some advice please...I currently driving a manual Golf 5 GTI. stg2, 76mm downpipe and im looking at getting a BMW e92 335i automatic (paddle shift).

How good are these vehicles? are they problematic? are they crazy heavy on fuel compare to me GTI?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks
A

I do not want to comment about the consumption, but the BMW will most probably outlive the VW if it is well-looked after.

I agree, the bottom line is if you buy a car that can go 300km/h you are not buying it for it's fuel saving properties

Lol...ok so consumption is a touchy subject with the 335i... will add a chipbox that should sort out the fuel consumption and everything else...
So reliability you guys reckon the 335 is the way to go...the one im looking at just had 2 new turbos replaced...

I dont have a x35 but moved from a E46 320d to a V8 Discovery.

It was a real shock having to fill up so often. Now I have a diesel discovery and the fuel consumption is not that different to the v8. Diesel - 10-12l/100km. V8 Petrol 15-17l/100km. on the long road the v8 got down to 10l/100km.

2- 5km less per 100km, for the sound of the V8, it is definitely worth it.

These new engines are really efficient, after a few months you will forget about the fuel and start enjoying the drive.
