Any idea of what the problem is? I think that the technicians at BMW just reset the fault after replacing the part highlighted as failed but dont go the extra mile to rectify the route cause? Im no mechanic, Im just guessing!

ANyway, help me if you can. If you have similar problems, let me know. How can I get this solved? Who can I send a mail to, besides the sexy chick at reception?

I think this is the case on most BMW's. A dealer in Centurion milked my M5's motorplan to the amount of R170k to fix a engine wine. I told them 100 times its the alternator which costs R25k to no avail. Car was not fixed after four bookings. Took it to Cedar Square BMW on a referal and car got fixed in two days.

As for my 335 I have had no problems at all besides a steering lock light coming on once. I reckon it has a lot to do with the mechs and the BMW diagnosis process which leaves traditional fault finding out of the equation and seeing what the computer says. My car makes a gazillion kw more than stock so I guess the problems are more related to your luck with the car than the fact that they all fail.

@ George,

How much KW is that 335 of yours churning out. The endless list of mods you display is something else!

To everyone else:

I got news from bmw that the problem all along is the Netstar unit that the previous owner removed leaving all sorts of wiring exposed and short circuiting the system. I should be getting it back today and hopefully that is the only problem Ill ever have again. So be warned, similar problems you might be having could be a faulty tracking unit. Who would have known?????

HI,

I am new to this forum-i would start a new post/thread but i cant seem to find the place to do it.
Wondering if any of you can help.
just bought a 330i 2005 E90. It runs very well. The only slight issue i have is that at 3100rpm the motor seems to hit a flat spot. I took it to the dealer and they have done numerous tests-they say its all good.
Its not a biggie but i would like to know if any of you have experienced the same. The guy i bought it from really looked after the car-he did mention that he had the software upgraded. BMW said it could be the software upgrade he did. I am not a motor expert so i do not know any jargon.

Any ideas as to what it could be?

Thanks
Patrick

don't ever take your car to Goch and Cooper.

I've seen and heard of experiences people have had with taking their cars to that workshop.

Really?

That was not what I experienced. And definitely not what MattQ experienced.

I bought a turbo car from a guy who had the modification done there

they charged him in excess of 40k to turbo the car, used high comp pistons with standard TS turbo and manifold

I went through some of the invoices, they charged him R250 to replace the starter, thats just two bolts, and another R250 to replace the alternator, which is also just two bolts.

there are other instances I can also refer to

I thought this post was about BMW problematic motor -- gees slandering companies without allowing them to comment -- do it in another forum post.

Saturnz...
Your comments are not fair or appropriate on this thread. I first thought it was (your) experience but now it seems you are relaying and interpreting someone elses experience. The company concerned is a sponsor on this forum and surely you could raise these issues directly with them. If you dont get any satisfaction surely you could create a new thread of this particular concern and allow gogh and cooper to respond.

My experience with gogh and cooper has been a very positive one for many, many years and the management of the company would not tolerate poor workmanship from its staff. I am convinced if there is a serious concern such as you relate it will be handled with the utmost urgency and seriousness by G&C.

Let me make a general comment: We, the consumer need to empower ourselves especially in the automotive industry. If you are not happy with a service address the matter there and then. I am one of those that hold no prisoners and will not tolerate bad services from bmw or any automotive workshop...i have no problem to toi-toi on someones doorstep. But i would always give someone the benefit of the doubt and especially if i summise it was an oversight by the service provider.

I can give you many examples of amazing service by Gogh and Cooper. If i had a problem i would speak to it on the spot and the manager in charge would not forget the tongue lashing soon, however i have been fortunate that i have never had a bad experience with gogh and cooper.

well that would be a rather moot issue. I will never take my car there (or anywhere else for that matter) and I doubt I will come into contact with them again and I will never refer someone to them, so I don't see any point, irrespective of what G&C management have to say.

...and thats not slander, just a position which I am entitled to hold.

and my apologies for hijacking the thread, it was never my intention.
