335 stage 2 fuel pump fault

Hi Guys

Need some clarification on the below.

My car is going in tomorrow to BMW. Had the car by Sherwin last week and picked up fuel pump fault. Currently the car feels dead with the stage 2 compared to how she pulled before the problem started.

Spoke to service manager yesterday who advised that there is a software upgrade that they do first before looking at hardware issues.

What I would like to know is if they only load the software and say car is fixed, how will this help me if I should load the stage 2 map again. Does it completely overwrite the BMW map or only certain areas of map.

My only symptons are down on power and occasionally surging. She starts fine and idles fine.

There are various stages of HPFP failure with many different symptons. Your car is not getting enough pressure at high revs.

BMW update all the modules in the car & the fuel pump control module update is one of those that makes a difference to the operation of the pump. It actually does make a difference. They also make changes in the DME programming but that doesn't make as much of a difference as the fuel pump module programming.

Most software tuners will re-read the new stockfile & modify the new version of programming you have. Car will be smoother & more fuel efficient than the older version.

The software is only going to fix the problem for a short while, then you be back there for a new pump, GUARENTEED!!!! Demand a new pump and save you and them time and money!!!

What the new software does is it primes the pump before startup. If the pump is already gone software is not going to help much. I guess in you have to go their route first.

Thats what BMW does, when my FP went, they did the SW and asked me to fetch the car, they test drove the car and said it was fine, i drove out the bmw premises and pulled her from the first robo... mngt light went on immediately, drove back and left the car with them... then only they ordered a new FP... :thinker:
